Lobby Against Online Poker

Is Online Poker hurting your personal life with your family?

Has Online Poker consumed your time with minimal results?

How does Online Poker affect your Real Life?

I think these questions should be addressed if we are to remain true to our commitments in life. I believe that the larger portion of our "poker community" at this site might feel these questions and others are fair questions.

Many of us play online poker for different reasons and goals. But when does it become an interference in Real Life? How many does it affect? Family life, personal time consumed, times' one might feel cheated not of money but that of time.

Does forums such as this perpetuate and exploit a mental illness of addiction?

We know this to be likely true but never discuss it.

I am curious if some of our members or maybe even likely a majority of our members have been sucked down a rabbit hole of deceit and mental sickness of addiction.

We all know a certain amount of personal blame should be placed upon an individual but when do when do we begin to admit that some blame must be placed upon poker sites such as CardsChat and other similar sites take some responsibility perpetuating the addiction and mental illness of losing players? Where is the line in the sand of personal decision and propagated rhetoric drawn?

Should some of us begin to become more pro-active in the Lobby against Online Poker without regulation? Clearly we know of the ongoing problem of BOTS and Collusion. But I think it is imperative that we also recognize that sites like WPN(no regulation) have a clear directive of "trickle up economics"

Thoughts?

Thanks for worrying about me Karen, but I'm an adult & having considered the issues I consider relevant, including some of those you mentioned, I will continue to frequent this forum & some of those poker sites available to me when I wish. Good luck though with your efforts to interfere with the lives of those who disagree with your vision, or lack thereof.

I believe that if a person has a head on his shoulders and is sane, he understands that work is important for any business, then any difficulties will be within his power.

Should some of us begin to become more pro-active in the Lobby against Online Poker without regulation?

This is a forum for poker lovers, so it would make a lot more sense to become active in the lobby for making online poker legal and regulated in your country or state of residence. If you post in a forum for wine lowers, you likely also wont find much support for the idea, that "some of us should begin to become more pro-active in the lobby against alcohol" ;)

Well isn't that what the responsible gaming button is for, here at CC for the most part all you will read is play responsible use good bankroll management ,play within your means, even for the degenerate gambler people here will try to steer them in the right direction,so coming here to a forum to talk about their demons and maybe get pointed in the right direction don't think that will hurt ,can't say I've ever seen someone say they have a problem with gambling and others encourage them to continue so coming here won't hurt them , here they can still gamble and never lose a dime, with all the cash offered at all the different sites anyone can build a decent bankroll from nothing, doesn't cost a cent to part of this community and there is way more real good people then the few who might try to exploit a person with these issues

Is Online Poker hurting your personal life with your family? "No it has not"

Has Online Poker consumed your time with minimal results?

I play poker for enjoyment. Its not about money it about enjoyment and stratagy playing the game.

"Watching TV consumed a lot of peoples time with no results other than sitting in a chair with a blank face."Should we ban TV as well?

How does Online Poker affect your Real Life?

Yes it does, It has allowed me to meet many wonderful people and I have had some really nice experiences playing with them and professional players. Winning a trip to the 2012 World series of poker was a incredible trip. I also have made friends on 4 other continents playing this game.

I think these questions should be addressed if we are to remain true to our commitments in life. I believe that the larger portion of our "poker community" at this site might feel these questions and others are fair questions.

Um why?

Many of us play online poker for different reasons and goals. But when does it become an interference in Real Life? How many does it affect? Family life, personal time consumed, times' one might feel cheated not of money but that of time.

Why not look at drinking and smoking that kills people and hurts family's. Think of the human cost there.

Does forums such as this perpetuate and exploit a mental illness of addiction?

No they do not. This forum is for like minded people look to talk about poker and improve themself. It talks about being responsible players to play only with what you can afford to lose.

We know this to be likely true but never discuss it.

Majority of the members, you do realize most play free games or very low limits right?

So what you are saying is anything that can be seen as a personal problem to someone s should be what? Banned? Illegal. I make personal decisions every day of my life without others help. I do not drink and drive, I do not smoke, I actually don't speed, use drugs and have never killed anyone. Why? I am a responsible person who knows what can happen if i take thing and lose control of myself. Based on your theory we should ban Alcohol, cigarettes, fast foods, TV and many other things that hurt us. Did you notice or care to see the responsible gaming button we have here at cardschat. Are you against the 2nd amendment as well?

If your really worried why do you work on getting the game regulated. Making it safer for all the sick people would be helpful, correct.

Thoughts?

Boy do I have some and answered many already. If you think I don't care about people with issues your wrong. I have seem what smoking and alcohol and drugs have done to people. I have seen what the wrong foods can do to them as well. Where would we stop. Sorry, I don't agree with you to lobby against online poker. I do support of more legitimization, taxing and protecting problem gamblers by legalizing the game. By doing this we could see people who have problem and do something about it.

Now for the part where I berate you and call you a horses....... but I wont. That is not who I am or who I want to be. Its called controlling my tilt and anger. Yes a poker skill for life use.

I actually don't have problems in my personal life duo to online poker. I play by pokerstars and i only play 1$ tourneys or freerolls. That's the maximum level of playing... I don't risk playing high roller tourneys, i play with what i can afford to lose.

Also why specifically point to online poker as the problem? Does OP seriously think, there are no gambling addicts in psycical casinos and gambling halls?

Not win much? Look, the poker community is based on two outcomes; winning and losing. That's how it works. Not every player is going to win, although, every player will lose. Understand that and you've leveled the playing field. Think you've got what it takes to be mentally and financially stable to endure this cyber-adventure? Then come to this forum w/an open mind and let's all try to win together. Please keep the depressed "bus-stop" bench comments for the indecisive on twittter or some other troll infested soc-med site. Thanx and good luck.
