I particularly find it very profitable since the friends who play are recreational!

Depends on the stakes you are playing . Personally, I don't do any home games.

Playing poker with friends at home - what could be better! For money or not - it doesn’t matter. It is important to communicate in a relaxed atmosphere with family or friends. We get two-in-one communication and a favorite game!

I like home games. We used to have a monthly game where we would rotate as hosts. At the beginning there was about 7 of us who would play regularly, but also we would bring friends, coworkers and our little group growed bigger over time.
It was fun times, was a great opportunity to learn to play but also to network and meet people

I only play home games with people I know. Too many stories about collusion and payout issues.

I participated in, and ran, home games for several years. Had tons of fun and made some cash at the same time. As long as the stakes are relatively low and the rake is little to none I think this format is great. When the stakes get to 1/2 level or above I'd rather be at a casino (unless I personally know all of the players) as the dollar amounts start to approach levels where bad things can happen (arguments, cheating / colluding, lack of security / robberies, etc). Also, for the home games that charge a rake it's a slippery slope and illegal in most states. Just pointing out some of the good and bad sides of home games.

Personally I don't play home games. I just have never found that I like them to much.

Its fun to play with friends at home, you can drink, talk, relax and do some boards in nice atmosphere. Too bad, my husband makes home poker when I (and kids) are out :p

A group of friends and I used to host home games every Friday night between two or three peoples homes. We usually get a full table most nights and I even made my own poker table for hosting it at my house, oh the nostalgia! That was about 15 years ago now, just at the height of the poker boom. It went on for a good 6 or 7 years but eventually we lost venues due to people moving or the arrival of kids (the games went on until the small hours and seemed to keep the kids up). I still have thoughts of dusting of the old table and getting a game together one of these days.

I think it is fun. I like that the atmosphere is more relaxed and although I know it probably doesn't help me to grow in the world of poker, it is good to share with friends and family.

We started playing poker in HomeGames with 3 couples 13 years ago...now every family has two kids and we still meet aprox. every 6 week to play (and cook) together.

Last Saturday took the 111th event place.

We have our own system how we get the individual money in one purse (its always a ring-game, the winner of one event pays less, the others some more, depending on their final position and numbers of re-buys). At the end of the year we travell alltogether on vacation fir a week and pay from the community-purse.

In days of Corona we switched for the first time to online HomeGames at pokerstars and played since that every week, combined with a video-chat.

Everything is great and everyone has everytime really great fun!

My live poker experience was always in casinos. Only once was I tempted to enter to play in an unofficial house (an unregulated gambling house) but finally I did not dare to enter to play poker in that place. It was a different country from mine and I did not feel safe, since I had to put a lot of money and honestly the area of that place ended up making me give up on my initial purpose.
Greetings.

I think they're perfectly fine, and occasionally, I wish I could find some in my area. I'm terribly amateurish at finding grapevines for this kind of thing, as it happens.

And we have a kind of league, too. Every serie consits of twelve events, 1st place in an event earns 6 points, 2nd place 5 points and so on till one point for the last place (6th). The player with the most points at the end of a serie is the champion....and the next serie starts.

home games

pre covid i didnt really miss home games but now I def miss them, esp the social aspect.
Would definitely go outta my way to play home games once determined its safe.

that being said, i wish online US sites made private games easier. Would love to have a friendly online sng or small mtt for friends.

When I started playing poker, home games were the only option. I hosted one for over a dozen years until I moved too far away from my friends. We had a lot of good times or a least I did. I won quite often.
