Hey i want to know what tournament structure and rake is normal for a live poker tournament between like 50-500 players. 10 minutes blind level is slow in online poker but too fast in livepoker. Lets say my tournament has buyins between 40-60, are 75big blinds and 20minutes blind levels a good structure? My tournamet has a rake of 20%, 100 + 20, which is insane. Could i still beat with the high rake the game, or should I switch to other live poker tournamts or casinos?

In my opinion, that structure is a little strange, could you specify the range of blinds? 20-40, 100-200 etc...

I have found most rake for live to be 20% to 30% and more at times. They may also add on dealer tips for added chips say $10.00 for sat 2K extra on a 10K stack.

Best levels are longer as possible. 15 Min is a turbo for 30 is not so bad. Look at the blind levels. Look for one that go up gradually and not double every level. Nothing worse than that type of structure to be honest.

Here in LV, 40-60 buyins are a thing of the past except a couple of places where the structure is so bad and they take so much for themselves, I wonder if even the best low-stakes tourney players could show a win-rate overall.

Having said that, there is one $100 tourney at Caesars with 20 minute levels, not a great structure but I believe if you make the right business decision by not taking the add-on at the break no matter how shortstacked you may be, where you only get an additional 10 bb, you could beat that game even though the house takes 26% of the buyins and around 7% of the add-ons (they advertise 5% but that's a lie).

About 75% of the players do take the add-on. Starting chips are 15K and you only get 10K for the add-on but by the time the break is over, it's 500-1000 blinds and 1,000 ante each orbit so that's why I say it's bad to take the add-on. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about definitely not taking the add-on.

Not that many players make it all the way to the break (after 6 levels) so it comes out to around 76% for the players and 24% for the house. It's the best deal I can find that's affordable.

I play in a weekly freezeout tournament on Fridays that has a $120 BI, $4K GTD (usually tops $10K), 20-minute levels, and 2 hours of late-reg. Last Friday I made it to the ft and got down to 3 players and we did the ICM chop. I took 3rd for $1.5K w/an ROI of just over 1K%. Not too bad.
This is a comfortable blind structure for me. It goes fast but not too fast. We played for just under 8 hrs so not too bad for a "workdays" worth of grinding.
The bigger buy-in trnys ($250+) around here have at least 30-minute levels w/4 hours of late-reg. That's about the norm for "these here parts". 🧐

The longer the blind levels the better. I’m a live player so I’m more used to 30 min levels. 15-20 is pretty fast Live. 45 min is fun! Good luck!

I work as an administrator in a small poker club, we organize tournaments for 20-35 players. We have blinds growing every 10 minutes, we take 10% rake, and if these are re-entry tournaments, then we give out starting stacks of 100 big blinds, but if these are tournaments with rebuys, then we give out stacks of a smaller size. Our players like this structure, everyone is happy and enjoys playing

I think 20–30-minute blinds are a nice and playable level time. I usually do pretty well w/this length of blind. There are a few different starting structures for blind limits where I play. For example, there's 100-100, 100-100-100, 100-200, and 100-200-200 depending on the type of game. There's no rake only a tournament fee which is usually around 12-18% of the buy-in. The starting stacks are usually 20-30 bigs, not too bad.
