I can only tip with a very big win. And that's why I don't see the point in it.

You don't tip a tourn dealer because they get a percentage of the prize pool of a tourn.

If I'm playing $1/2 I'll give a buck for a pot over $20.

If I get up from the table and come back to an empty table with a dealer watching my chips I give $2-3 because they could be doing something else and I say thx for watching my chips.

If I'm playing someone HU live $1/2 regardless of what happens I give the dealer $2-3 at the end of the session because when you're short handed like that there isn't going to be a lot of action and tips for them so I have to give something to them and keep a few low denomination chips off the table so I have something to give to the dealer in case I bust.

If its a decent heads up session playing $1/2 I'd give em $5 if I made well over $100 playing HU but I didn't play a lot of heads up. And it really happened late when there weren't a lot of folks around and a table was about to close up and I'm the last one sitting there and someone decided to walk over to the table. And off we went.

When I'm getting my chips I give the cage person a buck or two coming in and depending on how I did, something on the way out.

The dealers, cage folks the person working the waiting board for a table all don't make a lot but allow us to play the games so I give when I can.

Someone is going to say you're cutting into your hourly rate or something but I actually think of it as an expense just like putting gas in the car to go to the casino and its also something I didn't mind putting money into folks that help me play the games.

And I don't play a lot hands so I don't tip a lot although I'm listing times I would anyway, lol. As long as I had an amount to cover what I wanted to walk out of the casino with then I was happy and didn't mind giving a few buck back.

But I always tell folks just give what you can, when you can and when it feels right. And realize those folks make the games possible while the corporate folks make the real money at the casino so be courteous and respectful to them regardless of lady luck and support them.

I tip, because in the games I play in live poker it is also about comrade, we are all trying to make a living, tips are part of the service industry. I had a post about tipping (not in poker) that definitely is confusing for anyone not in America, and rightfully so as wages make sense in practically anywhere other than US. People in the service industry cannot get by on the wages alone, if you provide a good service, especially in the service industry, you should be tipped. I always tip if I win or lose.

I created a thread about this in Live Poker to get a better understanding

I understand tipping for the most part when it comes to live poker in America, if I played Poker in another country, I would not know what to do.

If I am playing low stakes, and am up, I tip $1-$2 for every $20 from the win.

I've seen players sit down with $100 for a 1/2 and tip a token $1 chip, when they win a huge pot (over $200), but hardly at all.

I also tip the waitress $1 when she brings me anything I ask for, on top of the cost of the item.

It is disgusting that a casino owner can make millions of dollars just for owning the casino, but the staff that make the owners the millions get paid a pittance, I don't tip locally and I wouldn't tip in the USA either.

Dealers should go on strike a few days before the wsop for better wages, same with other service jobs in the US, the only way the employers listen is when it is costing them money.

I heard WSOP dealers make $50/hr. In an 8 hour "day" that's pretty good. But they gotta be fast and accurate.

Weird story. I sometimes see players tip the dealer early in the hand (before opponent reacts to a river bet) to signal strength and opponent fold.
This time happened to me. I thought I had the better hand at the flop and push all in. I had AJ unsuited on a JJ5 rainbow board The other player thought for a while. ( he was preflop raiser and it was HU after flop) and then declare a tip for dealer for giving him a good hand. I was confused as I thought I had him beat and maybe the tip was an angle to see if he could get a reaction from me. But he was looking directly at the dealer and not at me when he throw a chip to her. Table his hand AA ( suspected high pair) Two banks were dealt and I won the pot.
In retrospect I don’t think he was angling he looked like he truly thought he had the best hand and tipped the dealer early.
Too funny but sad for him
