I seen this twice
Head up showdown.
Player B is tanking to a large bet at the river by Player A
Player A is waiting then flips a chip to the dealer
“This is the tip for the winning hand”

What do you think? Hollywooding?
Does he have it ? Or is this angle ?

Hmm, I've never played a real live game to have an opinion. I'm actually more surprised to hear about tipping the dealer. I'll have to remember that when I win big in a live game ;)

Ha ha - I have done this.

It tilted my opponent so badly he had to leave the table.

I cracked his JJ with a crappy two pair and there was one overcard on the flop.

He is a regular and lost his mind over this hand and never spoke to me again.

Obviously if a player is tanking for minutes in a low stakes game - he is probably beat.

What happen at the river ? Did you make a big beat and he tanked
Did you say something to him ?
Did he say something to you while tanking to make you tip the dealer early?
Is he the silent type that made you tip the dealer to creat more confusion in his mind?

I made my 2nd pair on the turn.

And on the river I made a big bet and he tanked - and that's when I tossed the chip on my cards - pushing them to the dealer but not releasing.

I think he was convinced I had one pair on the turn with a straight draw - reasonable for the board.

He is a TAG player (and yes semi-silent type) and I didn't usually get tangled up with him in hands. I do have respect for his game.

I didn't say anything to him specifically.

But I did say "This is for the winning hand." to the dealer when I tossed a chip on my cards. The table laughed.

This must have confused him enough to call and see my 2-pr hand.

In retrospect I regret saying anything because I said it with such confidence - some players at the table knew I had him beat. But it worked.

He never showed his hand but I put him on JJ because that was an overpair (except for one card on the flop that I think he was convinced I did not have) and also gave him a higher straight draw. But he was so angry he probably had AA.

If he would have shown me trip KKK then I would have left the chip as a tip for the dealer.

Too funny.
The two times I seen it done both the tanking players folded.
I’m going to try this some day when someone is tanking and make the same comment
I think it’s the way you say “This is the winning hand” with arrogance and confidence. To make him call. Since other players laughed
If you say it quietly and unassuming to speed up play then might be taken as you really have the better hand.
That’s my thoughts.

Mike, I hope you don't mind my asking but did the dealer or the floor say anything about that? just wondering if they would have an issue with that.

Don't remember the dealer saying anything.

I think he just smiled.

The floor was not involved - this hand played out regularly except for what I described.

As I said other players at the table chuckled.

We were headsup - so I could talk out loud - to myself - to my opponent - there was no action behind other than my headsup opponent.

I don't really think of what I did as "angle shooting". But I can see an argument for it.

If I really wanted to screw with my opponent's mind I would have said, "How many chips would it take for you to fold?"

Maybe I will use that next time.

By the way - I have seen players toss chips to the dealer preflop "Just in case I hit."

I have even seen dealers throw the chip back to the player saying, "I haven't done anything for you yet." lol

I asked the dealers this question in two poker rooms I played in and they have no issues with it
They sound like they want the tips. And don’t consider it an angle
Almost like encouraging it

Really love the story of the hand and never thought of it as angle shooting in my opinion to be honest. I have seen some dealers and floors in the early days of playing mention rules I had never though of or could cause and issue and just was wondering. would have loved to been at the table with you when this happened.

Ask dealer about angling and one dealers had more of an issue with that "pretend forward motion of the chip"
Said she would force that angle as a bet
Angle by giving a tip to the dealer - they are all for it ...
I think dealer dont even care about the players -
they want tips
they want to make the job to be easy so ambiguous hand motion cause their job to be toughter
so be clear on the intentions for betting or not betting
if I would angle it would at the player - table talk heads up / giving a tip to the dealer is an angle in my opinion
that most rooms accept
be really careful with the false hand motions , that's something both dealers and opponents not like
the closest thing I might do is look at my chips or grab my chip to give false pretend that I like my hand but no fake forward motion

Honestly - this is exactly the type of experience you can't get online.

There are a lot of "physical" elements to this live story that don't occur online.

Get to my live table Luve and you will see me do a lot of funny things!:D

I've never seen this. This must be a new thing or something at the higher stakes.

But we only tipped a buck or two a hand with maybe $4-5 on a big hand like $300+ and some folks didn't tip at all, lol, so throwing a few bucks to the dealer before the hand is over wouldn't change my mind for like a $80+ pot anyway. It wouldn't make any sense especially if I'm getting the right price to call.

Even if someone gets me then I would assess the hand and see how they played it and decide what I wanted to do.

As for leaving the table, I would never get away from the table after getting a bad beat like that because that person might think they could do stuff to me if I saw them in the future.

I would take it easy for an orbit or two then leave while acting normal like nothing happened. Then walk around the casino or go out to the car or get some food outside the casino and rejoin a table later.

I'm for supporting the dealers but this seems silly.

Lol this is actually a pretty funny angle. If I was the player having to make the call I would try and ignore it. If I was in the position of the betting player I try not to do anything that could influence the players decision either way incase I'm giving off a read unknowingly. I just don't think it's worth it to level yourself, but it's always fun to watch when it happens to someone else

I would not consider this angle shooting. If anything, it is the same as a good bluff and stare down.
