I've worn sunglasses at live poker one time at a small cardroom with huge glass windows and the sun was honestly affecting my sight. It was absolutely hillarious to get berated by some clown with his back to the window yelling at me about how it's unfair I was playing with sunglasses on and he couldnt "read me". Laughed myself all the way to the cashier that day haha.

People can do what makes them comfortable, I guess. Honestly most people at live MTTs I've final tabled with are all without sunglasses or the hoodie+glasses+headphones combo. Just dressed normal. You don't have to death stare directly into someone's eyes to read them or intimidate. People are going to look at you no matter what you wear. The important thing for me is to practice always sitting with the same posture and being consistent with hand/arm movements and where I'm looking whenever I'm in a hand.

As a side note, I'm a woman and will admit I have experimented with clothing at the tables. My sample size isn't huge but I find when I dress in conservative, sharp business casual vs hoodie slobbish or "girly", I get less comments on my gender. I get them either way but the intensity is less in business cazz. Blazers are just as warm as hoodies :)

so tbh i never got the concept of hiding tells by wearing a hoodie?? i mean this does not even make sense to me [emoji23]🤷🏾*♂️ i get the point with sunglasses but lets be honest. Most of the PHYSICAL tells are unconscious so there’s little to no chance of hiding them.

If you're wearing ANYTHING to "block tells" - stop. You convey a TON of information in HOW you bet much more than in what your eyes are doing or facial expressions.

And ironically, a lot of times when you try REALLY hard to give off nothing, you are working against yourself because you'll create gaps in your concealment that are now easier to spot because you're working so hard to conceal physical information.

If sunglasses just make you more comfortable, then that's another story and seems reasonable. But if you're doing them thinking it's going to cut off a ton of information, you're probably working against yourself.

So true. It's much easier to establish baselines from people who are trying to control everything and as you mentioned let it fall through the cracks.

I never got the concept of hiding tells by wearing headphones. I mean I never thought ears can show so many tells.

In one tournament I tried the hoodie, sunglasses, and ear buds. I got called on everything and after I got knocked out, a player came up to me and basically told me my tells.
You try to hide eyes under sunglasses but your forehead tells more. Your cheeks. You try to hide by hoodie but it emphasizes every your move. By shoulders, by hands.
Though I'm quite interested what he told you.

I like wearing a hoodie but its just for comfort and not to try and hide tells... i think scarfs hide more tells than hoodies

The average recreational player has no clue how to decipher your tells...I will joke at a live table that I forgot my sunglasses, scarf and hoodie...the truth is that I am going to have increase blood pressure when I have a monster hand AND I am going to have high blood pressure if I am bluffing...how many players do you think can tell the difference?

cant see

I tried sunglasses to see what all the hype was about, but found it made it to hard to see all the cards, so i gave that up right away.
I do find the poker rooms are mostly cold and i wear a jacket, probably would feel comfortable in a hoodie.
I was playing in a tourney and the player after me said i can read all the other guys on this table but i cant read you, after that i thought i probably don't need to worry about tells, but i still remind myself so i don't show any patterns, unless i want to use one to bait.

I don't wear those.
I'm able to play feelings and thus make the people misjudge.
By wearing those, I actually block this and I kill my own weapons.
So if you control your non-verbal communication, then don't use glasses or anywhat.
It will give you a nice advantage.

I really like Phil Hellmuth's set up with the sunglasses, hat and clenched fists over most of the face. I try to imitate this (usually without the sunglasses)

I never wear sunglasses when playing poker - why make it harder to see the cards - and like Matt said above you are kidding yourself if you think you are hiding tells.

I frequently wear a hoodie - because it is cold. But I never put the hoodie on my head or cover my face with it.

Some casinos do not allow players to wear the hood of their hoodie!

Hoodies are good if it's cold casino but otherwise only t-shirt is what you need. No anything extra.

This is a great thread! Thank you TheDude6622.

I have never played poker live as I feel I would be a tell disaster. Lol. I am curious if anyone believes you can sense tells from online play?

I don't see a need for wearing sunglasses, and I only wear a hoodie when it's cool inside.

I think if you have to wear sunglasses, then that person should work on their poker face.

I don't like sunglasses, you can see my eyes, I don't need to hide them.
It's becoming better they are not using often this type of things.

It takes a lot of practice to build that credibility when playing live! Online it's more of a betting style/pattern that we have to keep track of along with using your gut.

My opinion

Sunglasses are not a good thing to wear because they can see the reflection of your cards in the sunglasses. Hoodies, I think, usually help your game. It hides the insecure bluffs and adds to the power of the power hit. So you can half-bluff Kenny Rodgers skateboard style.

I don't like sunglasses in a casino. Hoodies are okay. Everybody should wear what he feels good with. Don't think that sunglasses are really helpful.

whats the reason you dont like sunglasses, you can tell alot about a persons hands through there eys, hard to do if you cant see there eyes, i personally dont see it being an issue, even at home call me weird, when playing online, i wear my sunglasses and hoodie, why i cant tell you but it works,

I don't aggree... people don't look in your eyes in these difficult spots. They are always staring down on the table. My personal opinion. No issues if you or somebody else feels good with glasses. But i don't like it and i think it's a current trend. In comparison hoodies are useful to cover your neck i think. My personal impression.

I find people who wear sunglasses a bit ridiculous.
I frequently wear a hoodie, but that's just because poker rooms can be cold and I like the comfort of hoodies.
