How effective is it to show bluffs?

Today, I played a tournament.

This guy bluffed me and showed his bluff. I didnt let it get to my head and I decided to play poker how i normally play. Played straightforward poker. Flop a set and shoved all in since there were two same suits, he called me down with middle pair because he thought I was trying to get revenge on him and play back at him. After I crippled him, someone took rest of his chips. He rebought back in. We got involved again, this time, I had 23s for flush draw. I shoved all in on a draw, he open folded his middle pair, I showed my bluff and then told him we r even now and we be good boys now. Guy tells me he's not even with me bcz i took his chips and he has a score to settle with me at the table. I told him u do u bro. In the end, he got moved to different table and got knocked out and then 30 mins later, i got knocked out. But i do question how effective is showing your bluff or is it -EV and better not to do it? I felt i stayed disciplined and not let it get to my head but I feel if you show bluff and you face good players, it can work against you. What are your inputs on showing bluffs?

Every bit of information has an effect on the game. Sometimes it may not effect the game in a way you want it to.

I’ll sometimes show one card…the bottom pair of my full house. The other players might see it as I was bluffing but that’s because they don’t have all the info.

I’m general…I don’t show anything.

Personally, I consider it a fatal mistake because if there are some good players at the table, it will lead to carnage, they will pay you with anything and that leads to multiple losses of chips. If you bluff, it is yours, not the table's.

He sounds like the perfect player to get chips from. This guy is terrible so good for you. You shouldn’t have showed your 2,3. Never ever show because now you just educated everyone else at the table what you’re up to. You give up way too much info by doing that.

Poker requires one to make decisions based on incomplete information, how does voluntarily providing information to your opponent & anyone else at the table who happens to be paying attention help?

It helps your opponent because you just gave them the complete information, information they are not supposed to have. Now if your opponent is paying attention, you just gave them a front row seat on what you look like, how you played that hand, when you are bluffing. I love when people show cards.

once pokerstars held a tournament - a cage with sharks, that's where the bluff had to be shown, otherwise I think it would be in vain, it's better to hide the bluff.

I think you answered a rhetorical question.

Both correct btw. Never show your cards, never.

Sometimes, I play with a lot of regulars and have a really tight image.. The first time I showed a bluff the table went hysterical!
So it helps me get paid off at times, and I am usually able to get most of bluffs through, I have a very balanced range in the eves of my villain's I regularly play. So for me it helps a bit, I usually don't get caught bluffing so I have to show a few for my image.

There are various advantages to showing a called bluff. This is a clear demonstration of shamelessness and fearlessness. And this may confuse your opponent because it is likely that you will show a winner. You'll see what he called with. I've seen people call with nothing at all - your king - high card may very well be the best hand.

If the opponent looks like he's going to be upset if you bluff him, you might want to show him to get him on the tilt and use that advantage.

This strategy is very risky, you can try to get inside your opponent's head, or it provides information to your opponent and harm your game, you must know the other players well to do this.

showing bluff, the art of deception in the world of poker. This is a strategic dance in which players try to outwit each other by pretending to have a stronger hand than they actually do. It's like a battle of wits in which the winner is the one with the best poker face. So, if you are going to demonstrate bluffing, make sure your acting skills are razor sharp. In online poker, it is cheaper to believe

As personally for Me, when Anyone is showing own bluff: for Me is additional information about this player on the future...
One word: this is a Good for Me!

I dont show my bluffs or nuts. Why do I want to give them and the table any information. Yes you may get into someones head or get them on tilt but its not worth it.

Let me put it this way. I love when people show me the bluff. That information give me better ammunition to make a better call in the future.

also depending on the player who does it i will at times go back at them in a fun way. If they start to brag about it I will say out loud that was a nice set you had there. Of course they deny it since I am playing them but they usual get mad and tilt.

Some bluff and show their bad cards, to play the next hand with a monster and you think again it is a bluff. I normally don`t show a bluff as I guess it reduces my fold equity in future hands.

Online and in a live cardroom/casino I never show any cards at any time and I never discuss strategy at the table. Now if I am my weekly Friday night game where the same nine of us have been playing for a decade, we almost always show cards as everybody knows everybody's tactics, betting patterns, and body language. Besides they are mostly old drunk calling stations!

if you know the player well enough and your bluff can provoke his tilt

Showing cards after the show has already ended, regardless of whether it was a bluff or a really strong hand, I consider it bad form and a sign of disrespect. In the first case, your opponent will not be able to count you out, and in the second, your opponent will not be able to get any chips. Besides, why voluntarily give information about yourself. And if someone tries to dig a hole for someone else in this way, then most likely they themselves will fall into it. Surely there will be attentive players at the table who will make the right conclusions.

Only time I’m showing a bluff - if I think a have a reputation as a super nit and I’m trying to downgrade my table persona.

Only time I’m showing a strong hand - is if I want to establish a persona as a nit so I can bluff more easily later….

It really depends on what I suspect others view me at the table - and how I want to be perceived

I've never understood players who show just one card of their hand. That seems pretty meaningless to me.

If you're bluffing, it's better not to show your card because good players will take notes and in the future this can play a major role when making a difficult decision, just as weak players, if they see it, can play more aggressively against you, which gives you an advantage, it works two ways against a strong player don't show against a weak player you can show
