Yes this is ridiculous. If you can't have a pokerface don't play live.
looks pathetic actually...

I don't see a problem with it to be honest. Until live game organizers don't decide otherwise people can cover their face all they want.
I see this question similar to asking.. should burkas be allowed? I'd love to see those pretty ladies faces too and one could say if they are walking around all covered, why don't they just stay at home... It's just that that's a religion and masses don't dare talking loud about it. :)

I think it would be too difficult to police due to religion reasons too. Someone could just say it’s part of their religion. Because of the rise of internet poker there is likely a rise of people trying to switch to live and a lot of anxiety that goes with it. Personally I like showing my face and having a friendly chat with those around the table. I hate any hostility at the table.

I will say, that given all the other rules, which many tournament organizers have made, then hoodies should definitely not be allowed. And especially not if the event is streamed. There is nothing more boring for spectators than watching a table full of people wearing hoodies and sunglasses and not saying a word except "I call", "I raise" etc.

IDK, IMO if you decide to play live poker, you have to show your face.

You don't want to give live tells? Practice your poker face or go play online poker.

Legally its hard to implement a face covering ban with covid or muslim women wearing a niqab as a couple of examples. The players who engage in face covering will have very limited commercial opportunities.

Live tells can be over rated. If you stare me down I'm going to look uncomfortable. That doesn't say squat about my hand, just that I get uncomfortable when stared at for a long time.

Disclaimer: I suck at live reads so hoodies don't make a difference to me.

I never went by their faces but what they did and when they did something.

I could care less if someone showed up in a Mcdonald's Grimace costume but if we're in a hand and I see those purple hands move in a certain way by how I judge their skill level then there is a good chance that info might help me during a hand with other info like how they play or board texture.

I understand there are people that claim they can read people by their faces but I'm guessing those are elite of the elite players from what I understand and most folks don't have the skill level or the time put in at live tables for this.

This face covering thing seems more like the folks showing up with sunglasses at $1/2 cash tables, lol ie online players that have very limited time playing live and they're just going off what they see on TV.

80%+ of the fields you're going to play in low live tourns or even most holdem tourns like at the wsop are rec players who can't pick up on this. And then you have more folks these days more worried about math and board texture so I doubt they're worried about seeing someone's face but more about some chart from some computer program.

I don't see any problem with hiding your face, in live poker your expression says a lot about your game so hiding it is more than okay so it wouldn't be fair to ban something like that

I think you should at the very least be able to identify the person.

Yes, i have no problem with it. As long as it is in the rules. Some of these guys are playing for a lot of money & do not want to give others an edge or tell by their facial expressions and breathing patterns.

I agree with you on this especially if the event is steamed. But it would kill me if they did stop allowing hoodies. It's what I wear for the most part daily anyways, but I do put on the hood when playing poker not to look the part but because I just get so cold so often in the casino. When I played day one in the WSOP in 2019 the AC was just blowing down on the table and I was so cold at times I put on the hoodie as did several others at that tables.

Don't really have a problem with face covering as a whole, although in the West, it is quite rude to not show your face to others etc...
I would probably have a problem with someone wearing sunglasses, just because of the reflection; you don't know if they're sitting staring at you, or getting some angled reflection, able to look at another players cards.....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

i don't think it should be disallowed after all making reads based on body language are not that significant part of the game, so in my opinion it's ok to cover your face

Legally its hard to implement a face covering ban with covid or muslim women wearing a niqab as a couple of examples.
A mask used against COVID and other viruses dont cover the players entire face. And since casinos are private entities, I assume, there is no legal obstacle for them to implement some sort of dress code, which would make it impossible to wear for instance a niqab. Which is kind of a theoretical issue anyway, since I have never seen anybody play poker in niqab.
The players who engage in face covering will have very limited commercial opportunities.
As far as televised cash games go clearly yes. To be invited to those, you need to be deemed as someone good for the game and/or for viewer numbers. But anyone can register for a tournament, and here it would make perfect sense to me, if organizers banned face covering clothes. For people showing up in a hoodie, then would then just need to not put the hoodie on. Of course its up to organizers, but I would be 100% in favour of such a rule.

I just think they are just Cowards! Frightened to show their faces, when they bluff you out of pots, and it is just downright ignorant! But I blame the Casino as they should have a dress code, I have been to some that will not allow you to wear Football shirts in case there are rival fans in the place. But to dress up like a dammed "Eskimo" is just Rude.
