I worked for a casino. As a high limit poker pit boss, and ill tell you our house rule, that if the WINNER of the HAND asked to see the mucked hand, that mucked hand now becomes LIVE. That means, if someone misread and mucked the cards, but you won the pot and asked for it, if the hand is the winner, the dealer then would have to award the pot to the mucked hand.

Of course, the dealer would call FLOORMAN over, and then i would give my ruling and then tell the dealer to go ahead and award the pot the mucked hand, so be careful.

Also, this is the proper procedure in my eyes: A good dealer instantly mucks the losing hand so that it would be hard to retrieve. UNLESS another person asked to see the hand , then what the dealer needs to do is protect the muck by covering the muck pile with his hand (before someone mucked) so the hand that was asked to be seen, can be retrieved correctly.

Yes someone was correct by saying this was created to check the losing hand for collusion, and as a floorman, i have stopped someone from asking because the person was trying to see the mucked cards every chance possible, lol.

P.S. First time here and first post on CARD CHAT. Nice to meet yall

Had no idea about this rule Thanks for sharing!

If he called your raise he can force you to turn your cards over even though you mucked them but if its vise versa or check check the dealer should not have turned your hand over.

muck cards

I was playing a live tournament a little while ago, reached a showdown (not all-in), and I lost and mucked my cards. My opponent asked the dealer if he could see my cards and she said yes and flipped them over.

Is this right? Could he ask to see my cards?
thats not right once they are mucked there is no reason why the dealer should show the cards to any other player at all

. When a winning player asks to see a mucked hand, that hand will be considered live, and the winning player can lose their pot. When any other players ask to see a folded hand, the hand will remain dead.

This is why I never ask to see their hand.

You wouldn't believe how many times a player is chasing a flush and doesn't see that he hit a straight on the turn or river.

The rest of the time they got air anyways.

If I'm really curious I might ask the player.

Good luck !

Clearly he can see your cards. He paid for them so he has the right.

This is not ok and should never be done. Even in a situation where you are called on the river and it's your turn to show your cards, you can opt to muck and forfeit the pot. That said, if you muck your cards...the other player doesn't need to show either and can muck his cards and collect the pot. Shame on the dealer.

Yes , It is a rude move to ask to see mucked hands. It is however strategy , you now can get more of a read on your player and more than likely have put them in a bit of a mood because they've had to show their hand. It is a part of poker it sucks. Next time just try launching you cards into the dealers muck pile Ha

he can, and i dont even think its rude, online you can check history and see mucked hand that opponent had in the same situation, so why would it be rude live? he just wants information which is why we play poker in the first place isnt it? to make money? its easier to make money having information on others lol, i dont think its rude i think its pretty standard to do so and you should do it if you can always.

I was just watching reruns of the Aussie Millions Main event and one of the players asked to see the folded cards of the Irish poker pro "Black", don't recall his first name, after a showdown, and they immediately showed them. He complained and said it was not very good etiquette, that he lost the hand and didn't need it rubbed in his face. This was at the final table too.

I don't think it is rude. I want to know if the guy was on a semi bluff draw that didn't make it or if they are just trying buy the pot. Especially if they are the type of player that has made several large bets to win pots previously at a table I have been sitting with them, even more so if I have folded and lost money to some of those crazy bets.

It's not rude, its smart, maybe they will not make these crazy bluffs as often when I play with them is the hope. I have played with a lot of these type of players and their bets most time have nothing to do with the cards they are holding. Most times they are sitting behind large stacks, and are wealthier individuals that aren't as affected by the wins and losses as I am and have me covered many times. So anything I can do within the rules to slow their crazy aggression down, and even the playing field, I feel like I am an idiot if I don't take advantage of it.

Why would you care what other people think about you when the whole reason you are playing the game is to take their money?lol
