I have so far broke even, by that, I mean traveling expenses VS wins, if I lived in LV, it might not be such a grind, as I would usually be up...

ARE (sorry, can't edit thread title) live poker tournaments just a grind? (at least at the Rec level in Las Vegas):)

I can usually FT when I visit, but when I factor in expenses, it all just breaks even. I do love the experience! I love the games!, I love the fun! But is it all really just a grind? It's not like I am going to stop going to LV and playing lol (too late for that, as I love the game), just like to know the real deal about how it is just a GD grind (or not) overall playing these Rec games:)

Does having a larger bankroll and playing larger buy-in games elevate the grind?

Do you need to be rich to make more money, like any other business? (seems so)

I deserve a rant here: There is one dude that always seems to have my number across various casinos in LV playing REC tourneys (talking different seasons and shit)...SCREW YOU lol. Sorry, had to get that out there as a delayed tilt.
As long as you "love the experience, love the games, love the fun, break even & consider yourself a rec player it sounds like a great hobby. I can see someone observing what you do, calling it a grind, but wtf does it matter what someone else thinks?

There's an old adage that goes "It takes money to make money". That's not necessarily true since the poker world offers freeroll tourneys and the like. But when you think about it the more you spend in a poker trny the more you're likely to win back; per skill/luck.
Also, I think players w/a 5-figure or better bankroll will have a different outlook on money in general. Any player who has $1K or better to drop on a poker trny is obviously doing well somewhere in life, even if it's not in poker.
The "grind" exists at every limit, imo. Players who want to succeed in poker don't mind the grind since that's what putting in the hours means. Because as we all know poker isn't instant gratification. It's a series of ups and downs and twists and turns and all that razz... lol. Get it? Anyway, if you love the game, it'll love you back. Go get 'em.

I know it is 2023, but the idea of playing poker in Wilco still scares the shit out of me…I have a long history of Wilco’s abuse..I just can’t play with a right mind frame…I heard it (Wilco) turned Blue, but to me it will always be the insane Red county (this isn’t just a presence, but a way of upbringing)..so I spend the extra whatever $150 (round trip) (midweek flight charge) to fly to LV.

I will say that the Lodge gets everything right 100%, just…it’s still ‘Wilco’. Can’t do it.

I have watched the World Series of Baseball on TV since I was a kid in the 1960s...being live at the 1992 and 1993 World Series games was a rush like no other...the electricity was palpable...I got the same feeling being at the 2019 wsop with team Cardschat for the Colossus event. online poker is fun, live poker, in my opinion is better, and playing a big tournament like at the WSOP is a high you will never forget.
