I came in to a $1-$3 Cash Game At a Live Casino with $350, But I started the game with $200 chips in, & the rest in my bag.

Long story short I spent about 12 hours at the tables, the day basically went like this 200 ---> 400 ---600---400---200--700---500---200---100--1050

This isn't 100 percent accurate but more or less this how is what happened from my recollection, I just kept going up & down without & being super patient. I was wanting to wait for good hands anyways coming into the game, but unfortunately I got nothing but Q4, 104, K8, A8, 72, ect for MOST of the night but near the end where I started winning bigger pots I got some Ace Kings, & Ace Jacks. The only big pocket pair all night was KKs, I had allot of pocket 8's & 7s, 3s but they didn't hit on the flop.

I usually limp in with the pocket 33's or 77's to see the flop thats what I learned from Blackrain microstakes online but I'm still using that for live application,
should i be raising with that more? or just try & see the flop for as cheap as possible & hope I hit & stay under the radar hopefully they hit an ace or k & start raising me.

I ended up getting invited to a home game from one of the players so I'm looking forward to that.. My live poker experience is pretty new I've only been to the casino less then 15 times.

but my best run 3 weeks ago I was up $3300 in 3 days, it was amazing, 4 full houses, 4 four of a kinds & lots of sets. That's also my question.

how does one quantify something like luck/variance when it comes to Poker. I still don't understand that. sometimes you just get KK AA Ak AQ & all these amazing hands constantly. & other times. You get nothing but terrible hands.

What does one do when they get these terrible hands. keep folding & waiting for something more playable? or should you just go with it? I don't have a high bankroll atm so I couldn't afford to lose any big blinds by seeing any flops with shitty hands.

Unfortunately.. at the end of the night I tilted & lost all my money going all in with a Queen high Flush. Big mistake. I saw a couple other people tilt before me the table I was at had broke & I went to a new table where the players were new & the stacks were allot higher. I should have not continued when the table broke.

Anyways... my goal is to play poker for a living if possible & I am also in the process right now of starting a Stone / Countertop business so I will be making better money soon.

Consider this as my introduction to the Forum, I don't post but I want to take Poker even more serious after last night because I saw my self go up & down so much & seen so many others who made amazing comebacks. & left with 3k. It was incredible. they were down allot & went back up. It was pretty cool to see.

I have been playing for a year now almost daily but mostly online. I prefer live because my empathy /ability to read people is very good. Thats my strongest quality I think I have in Poker I can tell on some ones face usually if they are bluffing or not. (not always)

I play in Vancouver, BC btw. My profile photo says Medellin because I lived there for 8 months last year & I plan to move there permanently one day.

Where do you play in Vancouver? (I haven't played there in 15 years, RiverRock for the BCPC was the last time I was there).

I'm surprised to hear that BlackRain recommended limping in with med. pairs preflop. Personally I'm opening with them from most positions, most of the time. By open raising something like 66, 77 you're giving yourself more ways to win the pot... ie., you can rep. the A or K on the flop on certain boards.
If you're very good at reading people that sounds fantastic! I think if I were you, I'd spend a bit more time online, playing some micro stakes and using it for a training ground & to build upon a solid foundation. The game plays differently & adjustments need to be made obviously (ie. you won't often see a 5 or 6x open online). It's easy to rack up A LOT of hands while playing online & you can work on your game for cheap. (depending upon where you choose to play, you'll find solid players even playing at 5nl & 10nl online these days ($0.05/$0.10)

Instead of looking back & thinking of all the times you got lucky... or unlucky or card dead, focus more on the actual hands... on particular spots... then try to analyze those hands/spots.

Poker orifice is dead on with there comment, Look at your play and focus on what you did. I night you had is a really good night to look at. With several big up and downs there should be a ton of information you can re evaluate. Were the reasons you won big pot because of good play or luck? Did you lose big pots do to mistakes or bad luck?

I have literately won a tournament and happy as hell winning it but when I review the game I realize it was not my skill that won me the chips but getting lucky when I should have folded. I also won one tournament with only 1 top 10% hand the entire night. While variance is part of the game many times if the skill or mistake that can define our winning and loosing.

I think you did pretty well. I live over on Vancouver Island myself, not a lot of places to play in person over here. But it sure is beautiful
