Have you ever made an opponent cry or have some other involuntary emotional reaction in a poker hand? Usually they have this reaction after they see my cards on the river.

I can remember two occasions...

1. 2/5 NL holdem. I get frisky and make a nice raise with 45h. Guy next to me (he has position on me) calls. Flop comes 632r. I bet he calls. Turn is a K. I bet - he raises me significantly. I call. River is a blank and I check and he shoves and I call. I show the nut straight and he shows pocket sixes for top set on the flop. All he could say was, "Wow!" over and over and he convulsed a little as he dug deep in his pocket for a rebuy.

2. NL holdem tournament. I raise in EP w AQs and the BB (who is in from out of town) defends. Flop is AQ6 and he calls my cbet. Turn is a Q - he check-raises me and I flat. River is an A. The whole board is red. He donk shoves and I say, "Wow, ok I gotta see if there is a straight flush out there." And of course he winces. But I wasn't kidding, for some reason that day I was having a dyslexic moment and all the cards on the board in front of the dealer looked upside down to me...lol I don't see a possible straight flush and I call thinking he has an Ace and we are chopping the pot. He had JTo and was just trying to bluff me. He jumps up from the table as the dealer is counting our stacks to see if I had him covered. And he also gives me the "I can't believe it!" speech. totally wide-eyed he wanted to shake my hand and I obliged. Then he ran out the door. Fight or flight?

Anyone else elicit emotional responses from their opponents in a live game?

Good luck !

I have done this several times myself (and been the victim once or twice). Here are a few gems:

1. First time I ever played live at a casino. 2/5 NLH. About 15 hands in and I am in the BB with J9s. Everyone folds around to the CU. This guy was raising and re-raising 90% of the pots pre-flop, but I was new and unafraid. He opens for $15. Folds down to me and I call. I flop J95 rainbow. I lead out with $10 bet, he raises, I call. Turn 9. I check, he pot size raises me. I hesitate and then call. River comes 4. I check, he looks me over seeming to dare me and bets pot again. I look away, hesitate, turn back to look him dead in the eyes and announce all in. He calls and proudly turns over his 55. When I showed him my hand, his jaw literally fell open and he could not make a sound for what seemed like minutes. He just stood there dumbfounded. Finally, he shuffled off to the cage, got another rack but headed over to the 1/2 table.

2. 2/5 NLH. EP player makes standard raise. CU+1 (villain) calls, I am on the button and I call with JTd. BB calls. Flop comes Ks9hQd. BB leads out, EP raises, CU+1 re-raises. I call, BB folds. EP pushes all-in, CU+1 calls, and I (of course) call. EP has KT and CU+1 has JT. The turn and river are both diamonds and I scoop the entire pot with the flush. Villain is sobbing and saying that it is bullsh** that he flops the nuts and the same hand hits a runner runner flush. I never saw him at that casino again.

3. Two villains at a time2/5 NLH. 6 players at the table. UTG makes a standard raise. Folds around to me on the button. I have 45s. I call. SB 3 bets and BB calls. UTG folds but I was feeling frisky so I call. Flop 2s3sAh. SB bets, BB calls, I call. Turn: 6s. SB bets, BB raises, I call, SB calls. River: Ac. SB bets, BB raises, I 3 bet, SB shoves, BB shoves, I call. SB shows AK, BB had 33. I turn over my straight flush. SB chokes on his beer, BB jumps up from the table and throws his hat exclaiming "That's f***ing sh**."

4. Snitching on myself. 1/2 NLH. I am UTG with 77. I lead out for $6. Button calls and BB calls. Flop Q7Q. BB checks, I c-bet, Button folds, BB calls. Turn: 7. BB checks, I lead out with more a value sized bet thinking he has Qx. BB raises, now I really think he has Qx. I push, he calls. QQ. My reaction was  then  then :thefinger... I went from imaginarily counting his stack to grumbling "f**cking quads over quads, WTF"...this story is why I never start counting someone's money before it is shipped over to me (I should have learned that from Kenny Rogers )

Did you hit the bad beat jackpot for the quads over quads hand?

My reaction was  then  then :thefinger...

I just can't stop laughing from the good use of emoticons here... And believe me I'm on the floor from this 3rd emoticon.

I feel you.

Welcome to the league BTW. I'll respect you...

No, but I've put entire tables on tilt.

I feel like if I make him cry, he'll get embarrassed and leave. Then, how will I take his stack??

Have you shirted a player?

Several years ago I was playing late-night at a small So Cal casino. The game was a small stakes probably 1/3 or 2/2. It was early in the AM and this casino can drop to just a few tables overnight.
It was one of those times where you just have another players number and continually beat them over and over. In this case, I had stacked the guy 3 times over  and he was visibly upset and physically tensing up at the table..... He then stood up and with a Big Growl proceeded to rip open his button-up shirt as he verbally vented his frustrations :mad:. After which, he abruptly left the table and the casino. The rest of us had some table talk about this player and some knew him as a semi-regular and had witnessed other outbursts before but not to this extent.
As we continued to play, around 15-20 mins later the SAME guy comes and sits down at our table. As I am looking across the table at him giving the chip runner money I see that the guy has another button up shirt over the ripped shirt as the bottom of the ripped shirt is hanging way down below the other shirt. The doesn't say a word and just starts to play.:ahhhhh: The rest of us at the table exchange some looks at each then just get back to the cards.
I dont remember what happened with the rest of the session, but I doubt I will forget that guy anytime soon...... LOL

Someone made my wife cry one time at a cash table in a casino. She had pocket Qs and he had pocket Ks. They both had pushed back and forth and ended up all in preflop. She got lucky and hit a Q on the turn and he freaked out. Luck for him (and me) he was being escorted out when I was coming up to see what had happened. There would have been more than words exchanged if I was there with her when it happened. She ended up taking him for about $500 in that hand

cry? no. But I have had a good buddy curse me out when I turned over 68suited when I called his raise on the flop and turned a straight flush. He was mad. stated I shouldn't of been in the hand with 68suited. Literally flopped an open ended straight flush draw. he had the Ace high second nut flush.

I took 200 dollars from him. After the hand he calmed down and told me he should of guessed I was playing suited 2 gappers or suited gappers in that position (CO) and he was likely behind when I snap called.

Straight flush is so rare people often think an Ace high flush is good. Until the dealer spanks their hand when they try to take the pot! It was priceless tbh. Loved every second.

Yes we are still friends.

I once accidentally called with 44 in a JJ2 rainbow flop because I didn't see the villain from my right that he 3bets postflop. He then quickly shouted in the poker room but then river is a 4 giving me the boat and he's shouting at me for the whole session that i'm the worst player HAHAH
