Why drink, why BYOB? I drink (trying to quit) but I can’t tell you how stupid it is to have any kind of booze during a tourney. I keep getting ITM (sober) by seeing who drinks and just waiting for them to slip (and they always do). It is absolutely ridiculous to drink at any live game Rec or Pro. If you BYOB or order booze why???

I get booze after cashing out, never during a game. And don’t try and be slick with a Coors edge or whatever lol

I always tip 5 bucks for each bottle of water I order, I’m am not trying to be a freeloader, I just stay off the booze during a tourney.

I like to drink at the table but not what you would think. I actually drink Choclate milk at the table. The reason why is I like it but when you playing a long session it keeps me from getting hungry and distracted during play,

Can't BYOB into a casino and non-casino locations I'd never consider having a drink at. At the casino I usually have a cup of coffee early and sometimes in the last hour of my session I will order a beer.

I am down with a buzz near FT, no casino or at least at a poker table is checking what drink you bring in. (I think?) Then again, I never tried, I’m just thinking about Texas BYOB. Do casinos in NV check what drink you bring to the table? Do they check your drink contents?

I think the overall idea is don’t drink alcohol playing a tourney (be 100% solid), and like I said I’m all for a buzz for FT at a tourney (it’s not like I’m a stickler to the idea of no booze at a tourney (if you make it to FT) lol

so no booze early on but it's ok for the final table? Isn't the final table where we're attempting to maximize our cashes? I'm confused.

I could not agree more, once I enter the Casino the only drinks I have is Coffee and Coke until I finish playing, and usually I will tip one of the waitresses £10 for the free service! The staff usually pool all their tips at the Casinos I go to.

I do not drink at all when playing cause it enhances my ego, and It kills my stack:)))

Believe it or not decision making ability actually increases with a slight buzz, but only a buzz, anything more turns to mush lol. Final table is perfect time for a slight buzz IMO. (I suspect that’s what @Jillychemung may think also? Just wondering :) That, and a bit of a reward for making FT also IMO. I am still just a rec player but love to cash out :)

Haven’t played locally lately:) I may play soon, but have so many other things going on that I just reserve it all for Vegas trips. Priorities have taken a front seat lately so haven’t played much.

You are moving in the right direction :)
But a drunken opponent is essentially your easy money.
I'm generally against alcohol, especially during a mental game like poker.

Yes, I love poker but I never order a drink any alcohol I can't drink it I don't know why I haven't been attracted to it since childhood maybe because I'm very happy in early childhood in sports, I guess that's why I can only order some water to drink

Each of us has our own preferences. Personally I always have a couple of rum and cokes while playing. Mainly because I enjoy it, but also because there are people like yourself who will underestimate a player who drinks while playing.

That is really nice of you to tip the waitress like that. :)

I 100% agree, I suppose my thread has a lot of holes in it, and sorry about that. I suppose what I am getting at is, if you drink at a 4+hour tourney, don't get past the point of a nice buzz if you go there.

I am only speaking from experience playing the tourneys I have played, anytime I see people drink and get what I call "Liquid Courage" and keep ordering drinks (past a buzz point) because they are up in chips midway (or anywhere in a tourney) I just WAIT for them to go all in (and I would say almost always it is a defeated hand, they see two pair and think I got it! (I have more examples, yes, that is the booze talking, not the player!) At the tourneys I play, I wait for it more than the actual cards lol.

I have seen online videos where people that drink too much at a pro level do the same thing, so I think its a pretty solid idea not to bypass a basic buzz. I am not a scientist, just a drinker, and can tell you, that its not easy to keep a slight buzz and a solid midframe for long. You can taper the drinks, but the body and mind are thinking otherwise. I guess in my own experience, if you drink, be extra careful how MUCH you drink and when (during a LONG tourney), because it all plays against they player (no matter tolerance) after some time, especially in a competitive setting for money lol.

Hi.
I don't drink alcohol at all for many years. I am convinced that alcohol is evil. Players who play while drinking are obviously just indifferent to their money and their main goal is to have fun.

Yeah its like the guy that says I drive better when I'm drunk. Sure you do.
Who even thinks about drinking and driving...Seriously?

Can you play cards and not drink and drive?

Interesting, I will have to try it! I drink a lot of sparkling water because it has a bit of...substance/depth to it? I know that may sound a bit stupid, but I love it. I drink HEB Lemon Sparkling water all the time to hydrate, which is basically a generic brand of the La-Croix water brand. I love the lemon flavor!

I have also seen multiple times where people ask for Non-Caffeinated coffee which is something I would LOVE to have myself. Even decaf has a bit of caffeine in it. Don't think any casinos have it that I have found, which I can understand from a monetary standpoint...
