I notice when I sit down at a live poker table, I get the impression that the players at the table think I am tight, and I'm not sure if that is attributal to being female or what? but alot of my live poker sessions seem to start similar.

For example, if I'm in Late position and dealt pocket 9s at a $1/2nl table, and 2 callers just limped in, I may throw a $15 preflop bet down.

I notice if someone else bets that amount in late position, 1 or 2 players just may call it but they often fold when I bet that. Do they think I have very high pockets or two face cards or something?

Or maybe no one ever has anything callable after that preflop raise? If you are a guy, do you think you bet differently against a woman?

I think it might have to do with the I-don't-want-to-look-stupid effect similar to when unexperienced players are sat down at a televised table.

Furthermore, taking into account the general rule that women would lay down borderline hands less ofen than men decreases the chances of a bluff attempt. Men's ego does not allow it to get hummiliated by a woman - they'd rather give up the pot rigth away.

Honestly, yes, I'll play differently against a woman until she shows me that she can play. And by that I mean, I won't try to bluff at them, because inexperienced women players tend to be calling stations.

Hmmm...you might have "tell" that you are unaware of....

All of a sudden, one of the players in my regular group started to really push me around on the table...it was as if I was showing my cards to him.... I'd have AK, not hit the flop and he "all-in" and fold me...etc
After a few hand, I got sick of it, went on a tilt and called him.... and found he had nothing...not even 2nd pair!

The next time we played, I decided on random hands to "fix in my mind" that my pocket cards were 27os or pp AA just before I would look at them...

sure enough, he's had a TERRIBLE time at the table vs. me ever since
:D
Apparently, what even my tell is....it follows what I've convinced my self I have... now if I can figure it out, maybe I can get rid of it.

And yes...I play differently against women.....I USUALLY LOSE!!! :D

In my experience, they do. It's either one or two things:

1) They have that caveman "me man, you woman, you no can play poker goot" attitude, and give you no respect (which makes it fun to trap them and take all their money).

2) They're so "aw shucks", that they play soft against you. I've even had someone show me their hand on the sly  while I was trying to figure out if I should call...he had the nut flush, was next to act after me, I folded...:p

Once in awhile I go to play at the local casino. There is this one man who is there a lot, and he is so full of himself. When I sit down at the table, and whenever I'm in a pot, he's just talking the whole time, "Oh, yeah, she's got xy-hand, oh yeah, she's this, blah, blah, blah." The funny thing is, he thinks he has me totally pegged, but he is ALWAYS so wrong. I just sit and say nothing. For some reason, you can tell, he gets really irked when I take down a pot (especially from him). He doesn't show this behaviour when he's up against guys...coincidence? Maybe.

Wow!!! No WONDER women kick my butt... the jerk next to them is showing them extra cards!!!!

Actually, the only woman I play differently against is my wife....I duck when I win a showdown with trips she didn't see coming :D

She thinks I am bluffing....aaaaa Don't call, Don't Call..

At the live games I play I have found that the women don't Jibber Jabber as much about how great they are or tell you the 25 great plays they made last week.

Do I play differently? That is hard to tell....

I bet that I do....My voice carries differently; My body language is different thus I must play them differently. I shouldnt because I am likely full of tells......

There was this one lady I played with often that was easy to read and I used to bluff her out alot but that had to do with inexperience not the fact that she was female.

Interesting question......

Northern Nutz....:)

Well, I'm female, and depending on the opponents, I may play differently against other women than against men unless individual experiences tell me not to. There's a public perception that women are tighter than men and only bet the nuts or close to it, and while that's not always true (not by a long shot), many of the women I've run across do play more conservatively than many of the men. I once played in a ladies tourney that was so low-action that it took for...freakin'...ever! Five hours into it with only 24 entries and we weren't even down to the final table.

In addition to folding more easily to strong bet from a woman, there are lots of guys who will try to push you out of a pot just because they think they can.

I'm not use to playing against the same sex :)

I actually mostly play against men.

Last year I signed up for a 275 woman poker tournament. I'd never been in a room with so many woman who were into playing poker too.

I was still learning alot so the point of doing the woman's tournament was just for the experience, I hoped to come in the top 50, well I made it to 70th place.

Many of the women at this tournament were aggressive and I was certainly bullied since I, at the time, was quite conservative.

I have since learned to add some aggression to my play and this has improved my overall standing in home tournament games.

I still overall like playing cash games and I also like playing against guys more than gals....maybe I like many of their tendencies to play differently against me... <grin> ;)

I wouldn't play differntly against a woman. Just the same as playing a man you bet me 15$ preflop and I don't have a good starting hand you bet ;) I would be laying it down maybe try a smaller preflop raise 10$-8$ to get people to call. But not both probably will put you on the heads up. Hope that helps and GL at the tables.

no

im very focused at a poker table I could care less what you look like, how big your breasts are, but I do care if you smell...please take a shower before playing poker live.

One of my trips to Atlantic City this very attractive girl sat next to me, the only reason I knew she was attractive was guy next to me said "wow you are lucky" , my thinking was yes Iam because she has alot of chips.

thats all I care about is how much money you have in front of you.
