Is there a skill difference between (for example) $10/20 live games in canada vs. the U.S.? Since the American dollar is worth more? I know it seems like a ridiculous question lol, but does the higher dollar value somehow translate to a slightly higher skill level, or do the arbitrary blind values attract equal skill levels regardless of actual monetary value. What about countries where currencies have bigger value gaps between one another?

Hi there! :)

If you ask me, there is no difference...if you feel uncomfortable when you playing in some other country and thinking about higher money value - then go smaller buy in :D

Haha. Great. So then it must be more lucrative playing live $1/2 in the U.S. than in Canada if I can expect to win the same bb/100 [emoji1]

Too bad I'm living in Canada [emoji26]

The exchange rate is $1.33 to $1.00, so I would guess that US players are about 33% better...(tongue firmly in cheek!!!)

Not so fast. I've heard that Canada doesn't tax poker winnings. So if you're winning and claiming it then the tax advantage alone could negate currency differences. Imagine winning a tournament for $100k tax free. Or earning $100k playing $10/$20 as in your initial post. Obviously other considerations such as rake and player pools come into account as well.

Oh true. How much tax does the U.S. pay on winnings?

I'm not a tax expert but it probably depends on your other income and tax bracket. For 2019 I believe the top rate is 37%. Many players at cash games probably fail to keep accurate win / loss records and couldn't tell you if they were winning or not though (most are probably not). But if you win a big tournament or hit a bad beat the casino will report it and the government will have a record of it. You'll have to show claim the winnings and figure out the tax burden although in most states you can offset winnings with losses where applicable.

Currency value should make no difference.

Size of the room or locality probably makes more of a difference.

A larger player pool should produce more higher quality players.

Good luck !

Too much, they have a $1/2 trillion military budget they need to fund, and they can't touch their universal health care budget....Oh wait....my mistake.

We pay $0 tax on winnings in Australia also.

;)

Canadians pay no tax in Canada, but get hit with 30% off the top in the US for wins over a certain amount (tournament, hourly high hand bonus or bad beat).

as long as you are using the local currency it is the same... then any difference in value will reflect upon conversion.
