Fan favorite Daniel Negreanu is eliminated in 21st place, and the crowd gives him a hearty round of applause. As a professional poker player, Negreanu has faced defeat many times with great poise, but today, he seems a bit frustrated by this loss.

I have read he has some money troubles, and he got pissy with someone congratulating him for coming in 3rd or so in an event last year and he replied something along the line of "I didnt win $130,000, I lost $165,000, you don't congratulate somebody for losing $165,000" or whatever the difference was between 1st and what ever place he finished. It seemed a little out of character for him.

He also may have been commenting on losing a prop bet. There was a good article on ESPN's Poker Club about how Eli Elezra stands to win around $750,000 from 13 pros as long as they don't win a bracelet. Ironicly, Eli won his first bracelet about a week ago.

Greenstein is second in chips going into final table. Would you believe Gabe "Welcome Back Kotter" is fifth. I predict that it will be between Filippi and Greenstein. They both have the bottom five stacks doubled. In a limit tournament that is huge.

The final table is 8 not 9 and they are still playing until another player is out. So the information in the previous post may have changed. SBT

Certainly I believe it. Kaplan is no joke; he can play. He has kind of a quirky, LAG style, but he's a wiz at limit games.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I looked up his record at the wsop and he goes back to the 1980's in cashes with a lot of final tables. Just also noticed that he went out on the bubble. I would have liked to have seen him at the final table.

Kaplan out in ninth to Freddy Deeb's quad 6's on 7th street. I'm rooting for Deeb and Greenstein.

Damn, Greg Raymer is pretty good. Why did we not hear of him before 2004? Could he just not afford to play before then?

Raymer, like Moneymaker the previous year, qualified for thw main event thru a PS satellite, and was not a "pro" until after his win.

I know that, but you'd think with his skill he'd've realized how good he was before then and gotten bigger earlier on. He's by far more legitimate than Hachem, Gold, and Moneymaker put together.

i'd say it would have to do with his upbringing the guy has a brilliant mind he's got all these degrees in biochemistry and also worked for high end law firms before he won the seat and became pro, whereas the others you mentioned were pretty much average kinda guys that got lucky.

Can't say I agree with this one. Hachem is actually a great player, who has a few achievements after his main event win.

Although I agree with the rest of that list, I think Joe Hachem has proven himself as a legitimate player.

Hachem put up a deep run in 2006 after winning in '05 (238th in a bigger field; admittedly not as good as Raymer's 25th place in '05, but still worth mentioning), 2 final tables in the '06 WSOP, and a win in the WPT Five Diamond Classic in Vegas -- really the only other major win of any of the Main Event champions in the "Moneymaker Era".

I think that Raymer and Hachem are undoubtedly the two best recent champions, and I think they will both continue to put up impressive results for a long time to come (Raymer already has 2 final tables this WSOP and a deep run in the 50K H.O.R.S.E).

I agree with all of this; Hachem can definitely play. Moneymaker has done zilch since his win, and J Gold IS zilch, but both Raymer and Hachem are fine players who should be around for a long time.

I'm just bias against Hachem because I think he's an asshole, though his comeback in the 2005 ME was impressive. Hachem is a good player, I admit, but I do think that Raymer has him topped, personally.
