This is a discussion on What do you think are the most important factors for poker success? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; What do you think are the most important factors for poker success?
I think the 2 most important factors are:
1. Table/Game selection
2. Reviewing your poker hands
That's another area my friend doesn't quite get. Now we usually don't have the luxury of picking a table in live play because we are either playing a tourney or there is just such a short selection of cash tables where we are at. Even with that, the first thing I do when sitting down is start figuring out who I want to be in hand with and who I don't. I will always ask my friend what his prehand read on player is and he never answers. I assume he doesn't know. If he doesn't know he's not paying attention and should not be playing. Some will say they will play anybody - that's fine, but you should know who the weakest and strongest opponents are (and everywhere in-between) at your table. If not, you are just playing your cards and not doing what you can to eliminate as much of the luck factor as you can.

Above all else, in my opinion is the willingness to learn. Seeing as poker isn't something you're going to be amazing at the first time you learn the rules, and it's an ever-evolving game, being able to recognize what's working and what's not.
But before that you must enjoy the game itself, and not take it too seriously.
I think the most important factor is knowing yourself, if you know your reactions during each phase of the game depending on the situation, you can learn to avoid this reactions and act and be calma and patience during the games, following that path and learning from all your mistakes, you can become a great poker player.
No doubt patience is one of the most important factors in poker, you know how to fold big hands, wait your turn, do not bluff like crazy. These and other factors are of paramount importance to be a successful player.
re: Poker & What do you think are the most important factors for poker success?
These are all good tips.
I would say is this, you should enjoy the game, but on the long run. Sure, having fun is nice. But is the game improving your life in the long run? If yes, then you put more effort on it, and you'll succeed.
The choice of a certain time for the game, a good dream before the game, to eat. And the most important thing is that you do not have anything distracted from the game and no alcohol! More time to self-study in poker and there will be success!
So many things are important because there are so many variables to consider. Here are a few things I think are of very high importance.
1) Bankroll management - you should be playing such that losing your entire stack does not harm your finances. Your focus should be on making good decisions, not being scared of losing your stack.
2) Develop a solid opening range for all positions - This is so important. You need to have a good mix of premium hands and speculative hands in your range so that your opponent will have no idea what you are playing with. Playing only AA/KK/QQ from EP makes you way too easy to read. Having a good range makes it harder for opponents to defend against your bluffs and it hides your monster hands much better.
3) Patience - Just because you lost a big pot when your opponent hit their straight on the river doesn't mean you should jump right back into the next hand with marginal cards or start raising aggressively.
4) Don't be afraid to take risks - Don't run away every time the pot gets big and you face a tough decision. You also need to mix up your play and occasionally 3-bet with your middle pair or raise big with your draws. They don't always work, but these plays make it hard to play against you.
I agree here, I’m guilty of playing merely out of boredom but playing two tables at once and knowing that I don’t have to win EVERY hand I play has helped me wait on the right cards to make big moves on
the table where you feel best, there are people who play better head up and another who plays better against more players but always at the end we will have to have a bit of luck I think it would be for my patience to wait for the right hand does not have to be the strongest just the right one and be the strongest and luck
Hello, Everyone! On the present time I can to say the next, that more important for me for a success in the Poker: first of all, this is
a bankrollmanagement. By my opinion is a cornerstone in the Poker! I think, the right bankroll management is more important,
than your PokerSkill, because you have not enough Skill on the moment, but you do a good control over your bankroll, I think, if you not play in the big plus, but you and not play in the big minus at least exactly! And this is a very important for inside condition
every player, that move further! Next, what follows for bankroll management, by my opinion, this is a right chosen discipline or disciplines of Poker, and regime this discipline (normal, turbo, hyper), which fit only You! And only after this, I think, follows your ownSkill, over which need to work and to polish permanently!.. And else: need, as more quickly, identify themselves, who are you: cash player or tournament player?..This is a very important, because these are absolutely different kinds of Poker!
Following your plan. General discipline Those of you who are already familiar with the game and are studying theory know that in our game there is a luck factor in the short run. In order not to become a victim of bad luck - you need to comply with competent bankroll management. A comfortable and conveniently arranged workplace will allow you to fully concentrate on the game and concentrate as much as possible.
In addition, you should not run from one game discipline to another. At least in the early stages of his career. Concentrate and develop in one of them - this is the key to success. This also includes a disciplined attitude towards the limits being played. For example, in no case should you go to recoup at the limits above when you lose
Game theory An equally important condition for making big money in poker is the development of your technical skills. Studying the mathematics of poker, working in poker programs, viewing educational materials (articles, poker Waters, streams), etc. - All this will definitely suit your hand and will pay off in the long runit is very important to believe in yourself, no matter what happens, and continue to give all your best.good luck)
