Is AQ a hand you would play all-in preflop or not? For me it is a very dificult hand to play. Yesterday I went all-in with a player whose first hand was AK and second hand AA. After this I busted. I think about removing this hand from my all-in list. What is your opinion?

I never go allin with AK AQ AJ A10 even suited I will bet with the hand depending on position and the number of people in the pot. Not sure if that is the correct thing todo. low number of people, closer to button higher the bet

Maybe I should have I just got ripped with AK and A on the flop. But it was a freeroll and not sure things apply in nutty freerolls

With the AQ hand is to never go all-in. On the flop, AQ is a strong hand, but it's not a pocket hand that you have to go all in. You can make a reraise the original raise. I advise you to remove the pocket of his hand AQ all-in sheet !!!

with AQ you just pay or depending on position Tribet, if no one has done any rise.
Never All in!, After the Flop if you get top pair then you may go crazy.

Really depends on what the action is and where you are. This is my least favorite hand, and yes Id rather have AJ off suit then AQ

Depends on position and at what stage of tourney you are in. AQo and AQs are different hands in how they realize their equity. These are just a couple things that should come to mind when you get dealt AQ.

i would go all in preflop if i got that hand

AQ is at the bottom of my all in pre flop range for unpaired hands, it can be a tough hand to play depending on how you play it. I think it should could be played more cautiously profitably.

would try to limp in without position or get in cheaply based on others actions. Unless top pair is ace or queen on flop you're very weak so is easy hand to get away from.

with position id raise and hopefully you know your opponents so simple 3 bet if they come over top all in again is easy fold if not play it out again hoping to spike top pair.

Depends. I would play all in if im in late position and many players fold.
Then you can steal the blinds or get called with A and a lower kicker but if there are many players in the pot i would just raised 3BB and waited the flop but if anyone especcially more than 2 players go all in i would fold especially if ure playing for the real money in freeroll maybe you can even call

Im going all in with AQ only when im bored,but i wouldnt recommend to go all in with it,all in preflop is just bingo is not poker.

With AQ 100b deep cash I go all in rarely, not even blind wars. If the villain has shown he plays for stacks light then obviously I do go all in. One NL25 player fixed my leak for going AI in blind wars by default with it.

Edit: Players with hight 3bet%, or agression factor in my limits are not correlated to AI and 4bet% at all. So to figure if someone gets stacks in light, you actually need to see it or have meaningful data for 4bet% which is hard to get in micros.


In tourneys I guess the only way (mostly) to play AQ is to go all in when you are short hoping a flip vs pair and some dominated Ax hands. I guess you did not mean tourneys though because the answer there is obvious.

I would just limp to see how it goes. If flope doesnt help and somebody looks strong then fold.

I prefer not to play that hand all in unless I have a player that consistently overplaying hands.

I play AQ like I play JJ and 1010. Open if nobody has yet, if it gets raised I'll throw back another raise. If it gets raised again I'll usually just call. If the flop comes 3 undercards I'm usually willing to go all-in and play AQ the same as JJ.

Though if a K or J comes on the flop (with AQ or in JJ's case, Q or K), then I'll throw it away. It sucks to play short stack after one of those scenarios but you have to know when to fold.

I won't always though, like if my opponent is 4 betting his 88 or AJ or whatever I'll maybe mix up my play and play it aggressive 1/4 the time. 3/4 of the time I end up folding when met with aggression... odds of someone having QQ, AKs, or KK/AA are too high.

It also depends on what limit we're talking... in freerolls I don't really care at all. I'll go all in with any ace in the first 20 hands, unless it's some private league. Ace-high in freerolls before the first break is the best hand the vast majority of the time... people overplay their suited connectors, or just straight up play dumb. I'll admit I've done some pretty stupid stuff in freerolls, but I don't wanna waste time on them for too long. I'm the type of guy who will play like one of the freeroll morons until I have a decent stack.

If I'm 3x the buy-in I also likely will post and fold until first break. Trying to play serious against people who don't care at all just ends in frustration. You're gonna get sucked out way too much with an insane amount of loose calls. Nobody in freerolls plays well until there's about 10% of the pool remaining.

I play a lot different when there's money on the line though. Freerolls I kind of do just for amusement :3

.. i think it really all depends on chip stacks , blinds , action , players etc. , but ya AQ is a nice hand , nothing to sneeze at .. unless you're playing someone who is so tight they only play ak and aa ... is this in a buyin or a freeroll , really think it's more about the situation than the specific hand , gl

Hand AQ need to play carefully. Allin with this hand I go only in hyper tournaments. Or when seriously running out blinds. In normal tournaments or cash games allin preflop with AQ is a mistake. On the course you play in a loss to such moves.

Therefore, it is only profitable to shove is the size of the blinds are high enough that you have to risk shoving into AA, KK, AK or QQ (not to mention you might get called by JJ, TT when you are flipping.

AQ is not a hand I would normaly play all in , but it depends , as many things or everything in poker .
It depends on my stack size , the villains that are on the hand , the preflop action , if I am close to the bubble or not , if this AQ is suited or not .
AQ , especially AQs , is strong , but you need to play some poker with it carefully , play with the odds , with the flop/board texture , with the villains' tedencies/weaknesses/try to bluff them ,with position , etc .
You don't need to be afraid always of monsters AK, AA , when you play it , but play it carefully imo .

mostly i just try to stay to see the flop when i have AQ.

AQ, such a risky hand. However, all situations are different. Early on in MTT's I wouldn't do much with it except with opening in late position. I am certainly not calling a shove with it.

I probably categorize A Q with J J in my mind. Not terrific starting hands, but decent, so I play according to position, stack size, tournament standings, etc.

I love/hate the AQ lol The thing I always consider is how bad do I need the chips cause if its a chance to double up I'm going to be pushing.. also what am I buying if I raise all in? Is it worth picking up blinds or do I want to see money in the pot? And if I run into trouble am I broke or fine? So I guess it depends on the situation.

I always raise preflop with AQ (3-5x BB). If it gets raised, it depends on how much it is, 2x I call, more than that I' ll try to fold.

It' s a difficult hand, but in my opinion the hand is too good to see the flop for just one BB.

When I only have a few BB's left I go all in with it.

If you hit the flop, it is easier to play 😉

This is what I do, don' t know if it is a good strategy .

Several others have said this , but there are dozens of factors to consider . Cash table or tourney ? Full table or short handed ? Bounty, freezeout ,or rebuy ? Small blinds or big ? Early position or late ? Are you big stack or low ? Are your opponents deep or short ? Tight opponents, , limpers or bingo shovers ? Near bubble / pay jump or early in tourney ? etc etc etc . You could write a whole book on the topic .
