I learned in my buddy's basement when I was 16. There were 6 of us, we were all drunk and played a $5 cash game. Trying to remember the rules after everyone argued over what beat what was difficult to say the least lol. After that, we made it a weekly ritual and the games became more serious as time went on. We became obsessed with poker and learned the different forms, started buying books, reading everything we could our hands on and poker became the topic of pretty much every conversation. All of us became pretty solid players and invited people we knew from all over town to play weekly and the games were $600 2/5 as well as a monthly $200 MTT, I'm surprised we didn't get robbed lol.
A few of us actually quit our jobs, rented an apartment and began playing at Horseshoe in Indiana for higher stakes. We did well for a few years but one joined the army, the other fell in love and that's when the whole college thing happened for me. Now, for fun, I play micro stakes online. I feel like a failed athlete lol.
