I knew Poker for curiosity, I do not remember the name of the movie, but I remember playing 5 cards. Classic Mafia movie in the 80's ... Cigars, whiskey ... I went searching and went deep into Hold'em. Today I complete 6 years of studies and games.

And you, what's your story with Poker?

I learned about poker with the help of the reality show, I do not remember which one, but at once it took me somehow and began to play poker myself

I knew poker because once I saw someone playing at an airport from a computer and it seemed interesting to me and after a few of them I looked for information and started playing it, that happened more than 10 years ago

I always saw in the movies the people playing and I thought poker was an incredible game and I always wanted to learn. My first contact with poker was a little more than a year ago at a party with friends, we did not only have chips at the deck, so our bets were drinks ... and it was love at first sight, I have not stopped playing since then .

I started playing out of complete boredom. I was so bad. I had zero idea of what hands beat what.

I started playing guts which led to five card draw as a teenager with friends. Nickel ante games. TV poker, and certainly online poker, wasn't around at the time--or online, anything, for that matter. :)

not for the faint of heart...a long post

Cards have been in my life from a very early age. I began playing Memory when I was 3 years old. From ages 4 thru 10 there was Go Fish, War, Crazy 8s, 500 Rummy, Snap and those are just the one's I can remember at the moment. Then came Whist, Canasta, Gin Rummy, Cribbage , Contracgt Bridge and Duplicate Bridge.

My first time at poker would probably have been around 11 or 12 years of age. I can remeber playing with a ceramic set of poker chips that had a good luck swaztika imprinted on them (see below). On rare occasions we would play for pennies. During my junior and senior years of highschool we made two basketball road trips a year. One to Victoria and one to Port Alberni. The ferry to Vancouve Island took a little over two hours and on the ride there and back R.B. would run a poker game. The buy-in was $2 , the games were 5 card draw, 5 and 7 card stud and some split pot games. Sometime there was a 'bug' in the deck which played as a 5th ace and could be used to complete straights and flushes. You could only buy-in once, except if R.B din't partidularly like you, then you could buy in for more. R.B. always came away the big winner, with at least 50% of the money pool and quite often 80% or more. Poker would eventually pay his way through university.

In my early twenties there was a period where I was playing stook, a version of 21 , the best hand is actually a pair of aces and all 'pushes' go to the dealer. The deal was rotated around the table with the dealer puting up any amount he wanted but minimum of $3. He kept the deal until he went bust or one rotation of the table.

In my late twenties I was working on Bay Street, Canada's equivalent to Wall Street. I was working in the compliance department but had managed to wangle my way into the sales department's annual golf tournament. After the banquet I ended up in a poker game with the vice-president of the corporation, the over-the-counter equities trade, the CATS trader, two big porducer salesmen and a'friend ' of hte OTC trader who I in retrospect was a professional gambler. Buy the end of the evening I managed to lose a month and a half's salary.

My first trip to Vegas I got rated, which I think means you have an 'S' imprinted on your forhead that only othes can see. Poker rooms tlhen were small and many casinos did not even have one. I did not play poker on the trip only blackjack. In the week that I was there I had around $45000 dollars pass thru my hands. The largest I was ever up was $11000 something and he most I was down was around $6500. I ended up makeing enough to pay airfare, hotel room and entertainment costs and about $250 in my pocket.

At about the time of the poker boom, let me re-phrase that; at the time of the Texas Hold'em boom I was playing in a couple of underground games 2 or 3 times a week with the occasional trip down to Fallsview / Casino Niagra. I played mostly $1/$2 No Limit Hold'em but one of the games I frequented was a $2/$2 game with a live and Mississipin straddle. It play more like a $2/$5 game and depending on the crowd even a $5/$10 game. I was only playing online at the now defunct Yahoo poker site. It was a 10/20 limit game at which I enjoyed a great deal of success. However I was reluctant to open a real money account for fear of collusion and other possible means of cheating. When Full Tilt was shuttered I was almost ready to take the plunge. It was not until March of last year that I started playing poker online for cash.

Aplogies for being so long winded, but I started to write and just couldn't stop.

This has always been funny and sad for me at the same time. My ex-wife downloaded my first site and put me in my first seat at a table of play money. The site was party poker and that was around 2000/2001. Then within a year she was to the point of hating me because from that first day I was hooked and I rode the computer every minute I could, and when I started playing real money, I would do anything to replace the money I kept losing day after day. Now thank God, most of the time 4 or 5 hours is my limit, and the money I have on any site I put it there myself. So if I lose it like a the dumb ass I was back then, it don't hurt anyone else.

I knew about poker for a long time, I do not even know where. But it was just a card game for me, I did not know. And I was interested in her when the TV began to show tournaments.

my acquaintance with poker began with the film Maverick (1994), I remember what positive emotions I received, then there were problems with the Internet. I bought the book with the rules and the initial strategy, I do not remember the author now, but from that moment started to try to play.

I saw poker on TV when I was 15. It was The Big Game with some world-known professionl players. I even did not know any rules at first but watched with interest and admiration. Poker has a very strong influence on my life and it is great.

Personally, I was interested in advertising - pass the test and get $ 50 per game. I had no idea about all the nuances of this game. This was the only useful advertising that attracted me and carried away for life.
I do not regret a bit !!!
