This is Omaha, so neither one of you had a flush. The key difference from Hold'em is that in Omaha, you can only use two of your hole cards and three of the community cards to make a hand. Villain has an 8-high straight and you have three-of-a-kind 8s.

No biggie it happens to all of us at one point.

Omaha and omaha8 are great games, post questions or remarks on them and folks interested in those games will try to help or share some of their experiences.

This is Omaha & not NLHE. Different games, different rules. It would be better for you to read the Omaha rules. Good lucl. (y)

As Propane Goat already said, neither of you had a flush, since no one had two hearts in his hole cards.

In Omaha, you have to use exactly two of your hole cards to make the best possible hand. Not more, not less.

In the chat window, you should be a me to see more information about the hands you had and which hand won.

If I'm not mistaken, you lost with a three of a kind 8s against a straight 4-8.

You fell into a simple trap that all newbies make when playing Omaha, Thinking you have made the nut flush when the realism is that you didn't. The important difference between Omaha and Holdem is in Holdem you can win by playing one of your two cards, In Omaha you have four cards and you must play two of them and only two.
If you are dealt 4 Aces straight out, it looks a great hand but the fact is you only have one pair of Aces with nothing to look foreword to, all the Aces have been dealt out and you can only play two cards so no way to make Trips or 4 of a kind, certainly no flush possibilities or even a straight. The villain could be sat with K,9,7,2, in his hand and still beat your Possible full house if three 7s hit the flop, because he would have four 7s with a king kicker.
Omaha is a great game and personally I prefer it to Holdem, but many first timers fall into this trap.

Small detail but in Holdem you can also chop by playing the board (using none of your two cards), if the opponent(s) are also playing the board. For instance a board like 5555A will always lead to a chopped pot in Holdem, because the board is the nuts. But in Omaha a hand like K992 would beat A884, because 55599 is a better full house then 55588.

I understand how to play Omaha but I don't know how to bet or open. Is it much different to NLHE?

Assuming you are playing PLO high when we open we want to open pot size most often but if we are playing low stakes MTT we will be limping many hands especially medium strong hands to both call and fold preflop for pot control---- the 3 most standard post flop bets are 25% block bet 75% value/bluff mix and pot bet sizing with nuts and a few bluffs
This is always V dependent of course

I'll give that a try. I don't play a lot of Omaha, but when nothing is coming up I give it a whirl. Thanks!
