Play a lot, watch poker pros, be brave.

I am in the stars CC game with you and have a question:

What is the reason you time out every hand?

Sorry for the derail, but you are timing out EVERY hand. You time out, sit out and IMMEDIATELY sit back in. Do you realize how impolite this is to the other players?

To be on topic, this is NOT the fastest way to get good at poker.

To OP: Fastest way to get good is to play, review, discuss hand history and post hands. To start anyway. Good luck.

Ty for the advice. Is there an ez way to learn more about pot odds and statistics and such? I had a book by Ted slanski I think it was and I realized I should have paid more attention i n math class.

It is easier than it is sometimes explained, so keep reading about it and the light should come on for you. I had read about it several times (going "huh?" or "what?" each time) before reading Phil Gordon's teaching on it. That's when I finally got it.

Beware of nice looking cards. Will not matter if you Have pocket AA if you are playing with reckless gamblers and bingo nuts. Seen many all ins with 73, 92, 64 off suit and they win with 2 pair, trips, a str8 or even a flush. The cards are (supposed to be) random. Got caught many times raising pre flop with AKs and the flop is like 769 in the wrong suits. Been beat several times by 222 with pocket AA.
Keep calm and carry on!

I'd say be patient, watch some videos, live tournaments/vods, books are very good for you, and play a lot of hands to get sufficient experience.

quick and easy path to success does not happen, we need a painstaking and hard work on ourselves to achieve even that - in any case

Lots of things are important. But tha main thing you should do is to correct worst mistakes and develop your skill of hand reading.

Getting good at poker

I would suggest putting together some home games. Put together a group of friends that enjoy the game. Then you can set the stakes that you are comfortable with and begin to implement some of the things you are learning through videos, books, etc.

A very good player recently told me, "Treat every penny like a dollar then you can really start to craft your game" I am trying to apply this to the micro level games that I usually play.

what to do

The title says it all. What do you guys think is the fastest and most effective way to progress in becoming a profitable player?

Me don't rush in the games. and play tight there are a lot of players will keep going on in and they don't care what they have. I was just in a tourney and a guy kept going on with a 72 off suit to A2 off suit

Play opposite the table. If the table is tight don't limp but raise. If the table is fast, slow down and bet only your good holdings.

Play a lot, read a lot but it is also important to take a break and let everything settle. I play better when I haven't played for a while.

I could not think of any faster way to become good at poker. It will be always be practice and practice until you develop your poker skills. There is always a way to practice by playing from facebook or mobile and you can encounter a very good players.
