This is probably the most valuable advice :)

do not have a dog that needs to go out and pee just as you are approaching the bubble in a tournament, or even worse ... just as you reach the final table.

Then when she gets outdoors she just wants to play

Never underestimate your opponents; never think you have it all figured out and the other folks are just movie props. If everyone wants the same, you can bet that everyone is playing their top game.

Don't! play with money you cannot afford to burn!
Especially On-line, there are so many things that can go wrong that you have no control over!
I have lost count of how many times the Power goes off just as you register for a game and you cannot un-register!

Lots of good advice already, but I think, the most important is the advice regarding, what we can call the meta game rather than specific hand for hand strategy. Mainly:

1) Dont play with money you cant afford to lose.
2) Dont get emotionally affected by short term results.
3) Dont play if you are tilted, angry, tired or drunk.
4) Dont chase after losses.
5) Dont berate other players in the chat

Don't bluff in online games... You should play really tight in online poker. Only bluff if you realize villain is a rock and will definitely fold.

Point three I think draws the mistakes from the others.
I also played last night in freeroll, but I was so tired after work that many times I couldn't see the cards in my hand, but to play them again is just luck. So the first thing is to be fit (((

To be honest point 2-5 can pretty much be boiled down to "Dont tilt". But I think, it deserved to be specified a bit more, because it really is that important. If you dont have sound money management (point 1) and a sound mental game (point 2-5), then no amount of poker training or theory will make you a successfull player.

Let's set this list up to beginners like me, what is the list of the DON'T DO IN POKER!
Don’t be proud: know your own level so you can know the players who are best and worst than you.
Be humble at all times and recognize to your self that you are simply in a long and endless process of learning.
Know yourself.
Don’t you ever invest or bet more than you can afford to pay: once you put the blinds in the pot, they don’t belong to you anymore, in spite of the outcome.

Don't fail to understand that hand values change based on the action you face and the runout. Top pair top kicker looks good but facing certain action from certain villains on certain boards mean its a losing hand. Obviously this goes for a lot more than top pair top kicker hands but always remember that value of the hand you have changes with each action you make, your villain makes, and the board. Too many beginners hit a hand on the flop and then just barrel it away likes its the nuts without adjusting the value of the hand on later streets. I will also admit I still, at times, make the mistake of not adjusting my hand's value at times and have been playing for over a decade.

To go along with above, dont just play your cards but come up with a range of hands you think villain might have as well. Later on when you get more comfortable with game then you can add in the thought process of what does villain think I have and how do my actions affect that thinking.

Do not buy-in into the games with a buy-in that'll make you uncomfortable/scary money.

The one that I know and yet I let it bite me in the butt today...

In big MTT's, as a big stack, don't have a pissing contest with the other big stack....

AND: I had him until he drew a nine on the river and made 2 pair........

Don't go all-in first hand of the tourney. I find they rarely win, even with good cards :)

Don't be results oriented (such as thinking you should have played 72o since the flop was 722).
Don't take it personally if the button raises your BB every hand.

Don't get conned by variance...You can have good days and bad days, but doesn't necessarily make you a good or bad player.

Don't go to the casino.
I mean, if you win at poker, don't go to the casino with that money hoping for a bigger profit. Of course, this is also true for your own money: just don't go to the casino.
