Almost all of the financially successful poker players place more importance on their enjoyment of the game than on their profits/winnings, and they measure their success by how well they play on a consistent, long term basis. These are mental tactics to help them avoid becoming their own worst enemy and beating themselves in the game.
Your goals should be realistic--as others have already said--and they should be more about having fun, improving, and consistently playing well. The only real financial goal players should have is to never go broke and lose their entire bankroll.
In baseball, a huge percentage of a players performance is based on his mental state and mental toughness. Good batting coaches will emphasize that a hitter focuses on the task at hand, and nothing else. When in the batters box, you must focus on the task at hand instead of not whether or not you will get a hit, or hit a home run, or strike out. If you let your mind wander to anything but the task at hand--for hitting it is executing a perfectly timed and proper swing, and for poker it is making the best decision on any given hand--you will almost certainly fail.
In order to hit a home run, you must not be thinking about hitting a home run. In order to win and make profit from playing poker, you must not think about winning and making profit from poker while playing. This is actually much harder than it sounds, and the only way to accomplish it is by practicing your ability to focus on the task at hand.
