haha, poker is a strange thing. some call it gambling, some think its an investment. but anyway u look at it, the two types of ppl are still gonna play. and more so during these times, when those who gamble hoping to get rich get picked off by those who invest and are skilled at the game.

Personally, I think any tax on online poker specifically, should be something like a haf-point rake tax collected and paid just like a sales tax. It would be cheap/easy to track and collect without adding six dozen new pitfalls and loopholes to the personal income tax codes.

Online poker is here to stay. The numbers are staggering.

111,000 x $1 = $111,000 x 365 = $40,515,000

I like your idea Dude and correct me if I'm wrong WC.These are modest numbers you're throwing out there and for just one site? Please tell me there is someone in Washington who can see this as a good reason to legalize online gambling.

With the shape the economy is in currently and unemployment rates being at an almost all-time low for our lifetimes I believe that online poker will be just fine and maybe even grow during this period. While those people just got laid off from their jobs it will give them free time they never had before to do things they enjoy while looking for another job. Also, like most other people said when something bad happens to someone in life they try and make a quick fix. What better way to do that then to do gamble? :)

I believe online poker is here for good, however poker rooms at the casinos are more likely to suffer with the added expenses to play live. The nearest casino to me has recently closed their poker room due to inactivaty.I live in a rule area and have to drive an hour to this casino (Little River Casino in Manisteee Michigan).I hope they open it back up in the future although playing online is much more convienant for me and cheaper per dollar wagered.I also like that I can play tourneys with over a thousand people in them where as live they were atracting 30 on a good day.
Long Live Online Poker!

Yes Duh

Online poker has survived this terrible economy. Gennerally when the economy is bad people tend to gamble more it only makes sense anyway. Poker will probably yeild more players trying to make something out of the nothing the economy has left them with. Poker is the right business to be in at this time just you watch.:deal:
Not to mention Horse racing and the stock market because it will turn around, it always does.

Not only will it survive but it is thriving. The more ppl like me that get layed off and r already semi reg players will become constant players. In the long shot that they can turn what they do live into a profit with online play. Long shot may b an understatement! LOL
