If you buy onto a 10NL cash table for the max $10, you can lose that on one hand. If you buy into a $2.20 Sng you can play four of them and have change, that gives you better odds of building a role with SnG's.

:dito: I think 9player SNgs are a great way to Build up your bankroll I have done that several times when we where able to play on Full Tilt and I loved the chopping function "lets make a deal" they had .

From looking at all the posts, it seems I'm the only one that prefers cash game over SnGs. I think it's a personal preference. For me, I make money for a living playing cash games. I guess some people can make a living off SnGs but Id rather make $100 in 10 minutes than make the same $100 in an hour or so. I like my hourly rate to be higher. I understand I can lose $100 in a matter of minutes, but is it really that likely that I'll have KK vs. AA my first hand that many times in a row lol??

No offense to anyone, I believe SnGs are for players that are more scared to lose there money. And if you are, you can turn a good profit from SnGs. As for me, making $48/hr playing poker is what I'm happy with and pays for me and my family. I think you should give both a shot, and see what you feel more comfortable with.

GL!

This is very true for my friends and I. We played 10nl last week for the first time since like November, and the consensus was that we prefer playing 2 $5 sit and goes. We can't lose as much, and it is a lot more exciting.

SNGs are much more intuitive. Or rather, I find ICM theory much more intuitive than +EV theory. So I can multi-table SNGs pretty easily, but cash I need to pay much more attention. I found that swings are also harsher in cash. The other side of the coin is that there is much more money to be made in cash, IMO.

I think that there is weaker competition in sngs in general. I would suggest looking at the 45 man mtts. I will be back on stars soon and playing those games. You can easily build a roll and move up in stakes. There are a ton of donations coming from ppl that don't have a clue how to win. Google Boku87 and see how he turned 10 or 100 bucks into 10,000 in 14 days. GL trying to grind up that kind of a roll in 14 days playing cash. I think there are lots of popular big name players that started off grinding sngs and then moved to cash. Durr I know got started off in the sng world.

Anyways, sngs are easy man. Playing cash is hard. You can build a big roll starting from scratch playing sngs so most ppl look to play them when they first get started in poker.

GL and run good.

Yeah, I miss the 45-mans. Those were my bread-and-butter back in the days of FTP. SO MUCH money to be made in them. After Black Friday when I switched to Merge, I could no longer grind 45-mans. The structure was just AWFUL, not to mention they only run turbos (which are super-fast and short-stacked on Merge), and the traffic wasn't nearly enough. Really hoping a US facing network (fingers crossed, Revolution Gaming!) gives me a 45-man with a decent structure and player pool!

What up Mentor.

I just spent today applying for and getting approved for an enhanced drivers license that will let me into canada. It took me the good part of the day but it was well worth it. Now I need a Canadian bank account and a mailing address & Im money. I can't believe I'll be back on stars grindin those 45 mans. I've been waiting for another shot to grind up a roll & Im hoping to crush those games when I do get the chance to. If all goes as planned I will be on freaking pokerstars grinding with my ps3 controller in one hand brew in another, letting tableninja open up 30+ tables for me tomorrow.

Hell freakin yeah buddy, I cant wait.

Not sure if you mean you'll be moving to Canada. If so, expect the process to take longer than a day. Stars isn't going to approve your address change that fast.

If you just plan on using a Canadian address to play from the US, don't do it. Stars will lock up your account and could confiscate your funds.

Hey, what are the books to read to become a good SnG player? Are there recommended posts on 2+2 or CardsChat to read as well? I think I need to work on my early and middle game the most since Im always way too tight and am often the smallest stack shorthanded or at the bubble.

Sit 'n Go Strategy by Collin Moshman I still think is the best book on SnG. Check it out.

If you ever decide to go to Cash Games, I recommend both Harrington On Cash Games and Small Stakes Holdem by Ed Miller. People may not like Harrington so much but it gave me a good foundation. Ed Millers new book is by far the best NL book out there!

I always did prefer the single table S&G to most other games. They suit my style (conservative/aggresive). I guess it's because I find it fairly easy to make the money, although most times the money is not as good as a M/T tourney. Also, if you like S&G's you'll love Carbons Double up (2x) games! Those are the ones I've been playing lately.

Yo,

I plan on moving to Canada eventually. For now tho I'm gonna see if I can just commute there on a daily basis. I only live an hour away, so the drive isn't all that bad. I won't be playing any games on stars in the US. I had stuff to take care of today & wasn't able to get there. I might hold off until next week b/c I think I wanna start a long hu sng session on carbon right now.

Anyways, thanks for looking out man. GL and run good.

Wow commuting an hour each way to play online poker. There's some dedication for ya. I still advise against this. Wait until you've completely moved. Stars is going to want detailed proof that you are now living in Canada. If they get a whiff of any funny business they can suspend or even ban you. They take this stuff very serious. There have been pros that have made the move legitamately and it still took awhile for stars to verify .

SNG's are alot more fun to play then a ring table.
1. you are going to be playing with even stacks.
2. you are not going to be playing with scared money/cash, and that's very bad for a BR.
3. It's a good way to start on a low BR, i know this 1st hand.
4. you can pick up some good skills in SNG's.
Also look at DON's to build your BR.
Baudib, i am sure that MTT's and PLO have more variance then SNG's.
No matter what I do, I can't beat DON's. I've tried from one dollar up to ten. I lost money last month because of them.
