When I was probably eleven, fifty eight years ago, westerns were a big thing on television and there was normally more than a few scenes of people playing poker. I loved handling and playing cards so poker interested me. My parents always encouraged our interests so they endeavored to teach me Saturday nights between when the
Lawrence Welk show ended at eight, and
Gunsmoke began at ten. We played jacks or better draw, five card stud, and "seven toed pete" which is a nickname for seven card stud. I even got a set of chips in a circular holder with S&H Green stamps.
