300BB is the standard up to 1/2 and add 100BB for every limit above that. So 2/4 is 400. 3/6 is 500BB etc etc.

300-400 big bets is a good guideline.

300-400 big bets is a good guideline.

Pretty much the same for any 'limit' game ... HE, stud, razz, O, O8, etc.

Also keep in mind that having over 3, 4 or 500 BB's does not mean that you MUST move up. Stay in your comfort level and move up in stakes when you feel your GAME is ready, not your BR.

As far as ring games go,I am stricly a limit player, and make a decent profit from playing limit ring games.
I usually like my BR to maintain around 500 BB.
I play 6/12 or 8/16 minimum.
Sometimes "very occasionally, only super soft seat" I will play a 4/8.
I believe you must play at least 4/8 to beat the rake.
Anythnig less and you are playing an eventual loser game.
Thats just my honest opinion.
But I do like to keep my BR at 500 BB when possible.
They say 300 is fine, but 500 gives you some comfort room.

idk where you play but I've beaten the rake just fine at .5/1 and 1/2....

Marginal's advice is good. 300BB is the general point, and adding 100BB for every limit above 1/2 seems like a good idea, as that is where you'll find more regs who have reached their threshold.
