This is a discussion on What is your playing motivation within the online poker forums, in the General Poker section; What is your motivation, to keep playing and not give up, when you loose for quiet a decent amount of time?
Look, 1000 ppl playing and only 54 get paid, someone has to loose, and this time it's you. After 99 bad tourneys can come the one, that you run very hot and deep, maybe win it. How do you know, if you don't keep playing?
At the end of the day...there'll be another one tomorrow!
Greetings. I apologize in advance for using the translator. It is important to understand that playing poker, like any other, requires certain knowledge. If you are talking about motivation, then you are experiencing specific emotions when playing. This is totally normal. We all want to achieve results in this or that business. I have to ask myself, what do I want to get out of playing poker? As entertainment, or maybe it's an alternative income, or maybe it's new interesting acquaintances. I understand that now you are describing a specific situation and in order to answer your question, I think you need to look at it more broadly. You can turn to the logical chain: why does motivation suffer? Because we are losing. What do you need to start winning? You need to train and accumulate your knowledge. In poker, there is such a thing as luck, but this is not the main component. Mastering the theory is extremely useful. Then put it into practice and not necessarily do it when playing for money. You can also hone your skills with play chips. I agree that there is not so much excitement in playing for chips, but this has its advantages - for example, you will not experience a loss of motivation so much. Personally, I motivate myself with my results. The more I master the theory, the better my game becomes. In practice, this is an axiom. And most importantly, the more knowledge you acquire, the more interesting it becomes, and accordingly, you become more motivated. I wish you success both in the game and outside it. Who seeks will always find.

Motivation after a loss is to set yourself up to start from scratch and at the same time be calm and internally balanced. Only in this way, in this state, emotions cannot prevail over you, since you control yourself.
Originally i just started playing poker as a friendly game with friends at home, no money. Then my local pub joined the redtooth poker league, i loved being a part of that league, climbing the table, winning pub trophies, qualifying for regionals in London, it was a thrill, didnt care about winning money. But even battling across the tables i still felt compassion for the other players, i always tried to play fairly and never enjoyed taking money from other player if i thought they were playing with their rent money, i know the whole point is winning money but still...
My motivation is to be able to live calmly without worries without debt, to be able to live happily, because of the pandemic I lost my job and thanks to poker I can pay to rent basic services and be able to live although not all the months are good so sometimes I have to save little by little that life is very hard, difficult here but thank God and I continued fighting I would love to earn a stable salary in poker to earn the same every month because a bad month I have to tie my guts
I live in the richest country in the world, where there are the largest oil reserves of gold, uranium, bauxite, diamonds, and many more minerals, where hunger and extreme poverty flood us, thanks to communist policies, in where a university teacher earns only $ 2 a month, that is why I have been evolving as a person, and as a competitor, I am a poker player, for more than 15 years as a player this is my way out of economic problems, which invade my country, and thank God, I keep fighting, and that is the reason I know that the Lord of the skies has something good prepared for me.
If you lose, don't bother, understand that you gave your best ...
Survival and dreams. Dreams to be financially stable and keep playing so I can help out random people I come across in life that really need help. Also so my son can have most things he wants and make it easier for him to enjoy life and teach him how to find himself and help others.
My movitations in the first place is to have fun. If Im in a loosing streak, I just need to find the fun in the game again, maybe read som new tactics that can be tried out.. if its not fun anymore, I need to take a break from the tables
my motivation is that I love the game (there are times when I hate it, sometimes). but I always come back to it, I thought a few times that I would break what I had on hand. I always come back..the action is top.when it comes to big pots that feeling when your heart really beats. then you satisfaction when you discover his bluff'.nice
The big goal ... to build up a decent bankroll with a small amount of money to take a seat in the WSOP main event in Las Vegas "only once". Chris Moneymaker's story is my inspiration and motivation ... nothing is impossible.
I don’t know of a game other than poker where I would have a realistic chance of winning big money. Of course, luck also plays a big role here but my impact on the game is even greater! For me, this is the biggest motivation in poker!
Analyzing, raking my hands. How much better will you play if you spend five hours doing a detailed analysis of hands that meet the same criteria. Most likely a little. Now imagine that I am analyzing a hand according to many criteria. I will have new ideas that will motivate me even more and will not let me get bored. And a few hours of training will fly by like a couple of minutes.
The point is to create a vicious circle between motivation and appreciation for our work. Exploring and discussing new ideas with other players will push us towards even more and deeper exploration, while providing motivation and social pressure to continue learning.
I like playing poker ,ana although Ihave a lot of time ,because I do not work any longer ,mostly I play freerolls ,that cost me no money ,when I loose ,unfortually many poker sides in my country have closed and cartchat give me not the platin level ,they say I post not enough
Make it a hobby, not a job.If you like playing poker, and your playing mostly free rolls, its a very cheap hobby. In the cold winter months, making poker a hobby and enjoying the game is the best thing you can do.
Well... I play for fun, and occasionally I can make a nice payout and treat myself to something on my wishlist. But mostly... yeah, I just love the game. No other card game or even other forms of games even comes close. It has all the good parts associated with a fun adventure. Skill, strategy, psychology... and ofcourse a tiny bit of luck. So, while I don't aim and have so far not been able to get rich playing poker, I do finish ITM in many tourneys I play. So my motivation is to consistently finish higher... My average finishes are between 10 - 27th place, so my goal is to improve my game so that I have more of a Final Table average.

Hello, for me poker is more entertainment than earnings, so I always enjoy playing and losing only motivate me to do work on mistakes and learn the subtleties of this game, and knowledge without practice is useless! I always feel progress when I understand my mistakes and this is my motivation! I wish you to progress more and only win! Good luck!
I play as a hobby, really enjoy the game and the thrill of the odd win. If I am on a long down swing, I take a break when I hit that frustration point where I am not happy when I start my game. Motivation returns when my attitude returns back to excited to play and believe I can win again.

My motivation is first of all the pleasure of the game process. For me, poker is a hobby that allows me to be distracted and have a good time. Therefore, the main motivation for me is the pleasure of the game.
If I lose, especially after several hours of playing, I do some exercise like swimming or jogging, watching a comedy movie and preparing food, or going out with my friends or family and talking about things that have nothing to do with poker
