I am just wondering what everyone think is a good value for a tournament that has a big buy in and a big prize pool?
I just looked at some other poker rooms to see how they compare to the one that I have been seeing on Fortune coming up this Sunday. They are having a 1 Million Euro garenteed tourament with a 1000Euro buy in. So in comparison to the others lets take a look!
pokerstars has a 1.5 million garenteed tournament with a 215$ buy in and there are normally about 7500 ppl playing in it.
With the average number of players in this tournament the chances of there being any garenteed money up for grabs in like 2%. There is almost always enough ppl playing in it to make the prize pool more then what they garentee. not to mention how many ppl you have have to play through to get anywhere.
Fulltilt has a 750K garenteed tournament with a 216$ buy in and there are normally about 3500 ppl playing in it.
with the average number in this tourament you will have a chance to see some free money in this prize pool. this tournament definately has a better value of money then the pokerstars 1.5 but you still have to play against a very large feild.
Ultimate Bet has a 200K garenteed tournament with a 215$ buy in and there are normally about 1300 ppl playing in it.
as for the 200k garenteed they normally have between 200 and 400 ppl over the the amount of people needed to fill the garentee.
Now Fortune Poker is having a 1 million Euro garenteed with a 1000Euro buy in and with only 3 days left to get in there is only 250 ppl in it.
with only 3 days to go before the tournament runs i am guessing that they will not reach the 1000 players needed to fill the garentee.
Lets look at good value with these tournaments. And just so everyone knows 1,000,000 Euros = 1,333,077 USD.
What do you think constitutes good value for these big buy in big prize pool tournaments. Is it the buy in vs the amout of players with the amount of free money in the prize pool. Lets just do some math to see which one has the best value.
Lets just say to make it easier to figure that the following numbers are close enough to figure.
Poker room buy in (x) # of players (y) extra money in PP (z) value
poker stars 200(15) 7500 0 (1.5 million) 0 value
+EV / buyin
Fulltilt 200(16) 3500 50000 +EV 50000 @ 3500 ppl 250 value (50000/200)
UB 200(15) 1300 0 (200K) -EV 60000 @ 1300 ppl
+EV / buyin
Fortune Poker 1000(50) ~650 to be safe 350000 Euros +EV 350000E @ 650 ppl 350 vaule (350000/1000)

All in all the value of playing in the 1.5 million and the UB are not even at a positive value according to the extra money in the prize pool and the number of players in the tournament. Fulltilt has a good value at the number of players, But it looks like Fortune even though the buy in is a bit bigger that there will be more free money up for grabs and way less players to have to play through.
Let me know what everyone thinks of all of this I really want to know what good value for these tournaments mean to eveyone.

I do not look at in the same manner. I review the event for the # of players times the % paided. As a sitter you should beat 60% of the players so there are only 40% for the registered players to defeat.

That doesn`t necessarily follow. In most tournaments, a large proportion of the players register during the last hour or two before the start.

I figured that alot of the players would register in the last few hours but there was only 825 players in the tournament total. That is still 175,000 Euros of free money in the prize pool.

I look at the amount of player, the amount paid and the number of spots paid. I am new to online poker and I am glad you posted on this topic so I can hear more about it.

What is a sitter? Not playing hands???

hi all,
i usually will always play if there is an
extra 30% to be paid.
so i times the fees by the # of players
and if it is 30 % less than the garentee....
i'm in.
best,

bodog has really good overlays. every sunday they have a 100+ 9 100K guarantee and 10+1 10K guarantee, and there are usually only 650-750 players in each, so around 30% extra
