Yeah I've been debating Stox for a while. I've come to the conclusion that I will try it out for the 7 day trial when I get to 50nl (end of July? August?) and decide to keep/jettison then.
One thing I have notice is that when both ChuckTs and Zachvac joined they really said how awesome and amazing the videos were ... then went on horrible runs.
lol, well the one thing I would say is that you should not try to play like the players in the video, you should try to take the concepts and apply them to the players you're playing against. Just like the concept of cbetting or raising with position doesn't have much use in a game where people play 22 as the nuts UI (we've all seen those kinds of live games), at limits where players will stack with top pair, won't be 3-betting anything worse than JJ+/AQ+, and won't ever
bluff for stacks, we can't be light 4-betting,
bluffing for stacks ourselves, assigning as wide a range to bluffs as they do, etc. But if you can take the key concepts, and know that the ranges are different but understand what they are, and then apply the concepts.
fwiw I watched Kyle's cbetting video along with Ed Miller's "poker made simple" series. Since then I'm running at 5+ PTBB/100 at 100nl over 13k
hands. Now granted I'm like 3 buy-ins over ev and running like a god now, but even without that I'm winning with a decent rate. So like I said, don't think the 600nl 6max 3-bet ranges are the same as the 50nl and 100nl FR ranges, or you'll be assigning a lot of KQ/low pair hands where no one's really doing that. But the videos are definitely worth it and the people doing the videos (at least the ones I've asked about so far) have all posted responses to the questions within 48 hours. So if someone's done a video and you're not quite sure you understand the concept, or are not sure what they'd do if say another card came on the river rather than the one in the video, they've all been great about answering questions.
