As some have mentioned, bigtime collusion issue. It should be of no one else's concern what the purpose or your relationship is. It absolutely opens the door for collusion, or at the very least unfair advantage.

Frankly surprised one would question such a thing. This guy has just 1 post. But can you imagine "I always show him my cards" going over real well?!?

Best strategy is to never show your cards. If you do (and we all have the urge to do so on occasion), show everyone.

Since it is a small home game, I would ask the other players that if, on occasion, you could fold but keep your cards until the end of the hand so that you can ask your dad afterwards if you made the right move. Then make sure you keep your cards visible and your hands away from them while the hands is played out. Once the hand is over, show them to your dad and ask his advice. You don't need to do this on every hand. I mean, you don't really need to ask if folding an 8-5 offsuit is the right move. For the reasons already mentioned, you cannot ever share them with another player while a hand is active, even if that other player has already folded. And don't ever try to do it at a casino, or you will be bounced out on your rear end.

I hope you don't show cards when playing for money. It's not to your advantage to do so until you have more experience. In home games its meh but im sure it gets annoying.

In brick & mortar casinos the rule is Show One - Show All.
Usually a player will just flash his hand to another player before throwing their cards into the muck. However: if any player asks to see the cards due to the fact another player was shown the cards, they will be granted the show and both cards will be flipped face up for all to see for a brief time before being discarded and a new hand dealt.
Enjoy your new Journey, and Happy Felting!

if u are a good player.. it s very cool to confuse the other players by showing the cards..so you can have a bluff situation after..but showing it to just one of the players..its not a nice move..

Depending on the place your playing and who you are playing with it is usually a rule for several good reasons.
Caching is fine but in a cash game is not the place for it unless everyone agrees that you can get coaching from your father in this way.
Also remember that blood is thicker than water does not apply to poker. Not saying he would but if your father knows exactly how you play he could take advantage of it when you are in a pot together.

If you decide to show your cards to a player, all players will see what you have in your hand. It is a rule and you can't choose just a person who can see your cards.
Personally, I consider that showing cards is not necessary at tables because the opponents can see easy how you play and what tactics you prefer.

I mainly play at pokerstars.

They have a feature in the software that you can use according to this question.

All players that have made a call into the showdown, can go into the menu and actually see the last hand and which card everybody at the showdown held.
