For example, if a player opens from the button with a x2 bet and you're in the big blind, you can reraise with a wide range, as their opening range from the button is likely very wide. However, if you know they're a tight player, then you should simply defend, as they're less likely to play a wide range. This can only be determined by paying attention to your opponent.
It's very fun to discover how your opponent plays and then adapt your strategy specifically to play against them. This way, you can minimize the hands you lose against them and overall increase your winnings. Of course, this is just my opinion, and there may be different valid approaches in poker.
