All of the legit reporting sites will honor opt-out requests demanded by the sites. To my knowledge only pokerstars demands they allow opt-outs, but I've seen some offer it for other sites as well. When you search for a PS player who has opted-out, you won't see any stats as I recall, or if so, just basic ones like number of tournaments played or something. No ROI or detailed wins/losses.

It's not a big privacy thing IMO, especially for tournaments. If you were a live tournament player, your results would be published and reported anyway by most casinos and those who blog. These sites aren't invading your privacy or getting in through a back door, they're simply watching the tournament results, which anybody can do.

What is more controversial is data mining of cash game hands. That's a hot topic although less relevant these days with the demise of FT and PTR giving in to Stars' demand to stop mining them. They still mine some of the smaller sites, but I don't thing the market is nearly as bug or lucrative as it was pre-BF.

LOL. and by the way,how is it that my thread title changed by itself?

It didn't change by itself, a mod changed it for clarity.

I agree with you I do think it should be private. I do not think 3rd parties should be able to access any private info without my permission. Others can justify the practice or even accept it but in my opinion that does not make it right.

newbie spew

i think there should be some type of scale or cut off deciding what deserves regcognition. We need to make the online world as legit as possible, like a live game. If you sat down in a live tourny you may or may not know the people across from you. I guess it would depend on how much you play (like if you went to the casino on the reg.) or if any other players have won a publicized event to gain recognition. Normally you will not know the majority of the feild and you will have to navigate it accordingly(poker). So maybe what we could do is have those people who have put in the time win or lose to be recognized or have had significant winnings to be recognized. this cold be done by setting time limits on reporting player names or setting bench marks to be met. or simply done with each poker site internally. who knows...online gaming is still reletivley knew and totally uinregulated. theres much work yet to do duplicate a live poker community. As far as HUDS go well thats just bs. something about having or baking your cake and eaten too (or whatever it goes) :stupid: even live players dont get that type of advantage even if they play together all the time. have you ever seen anyone taking notes at a live poker table?

Let's not turn this into another "HUDs are cheating!!!" derail. That's been hashed and rehashed (and debunked) too many times already. You don't like HUDs because you have no clue about them. You can't compare live and online games, they're completely different animals. Oh, and yes, I have seen live players taking notes. If you're a good live player, you're taking notes at some point. You can even get live "HUDs" and trackers for your smartphone.

i dont like huds cause they are not allowed for obvious reasons. you would have a leg to stand on if they WERE allowed in online play. They clearly give an unfair advantage and yes that would make the original game of poker a different animal. doh! imo the point of the game is to use your best judgment based on whats happening in front of you not reading the pecentages of every move i ever made.

Dude stop now. Huds are allowed on almost all sites, secondly its not an unfair advantage if everyone has access to it and it is allowed. And I just have a feeling you dont really understand what a hud is.

If you are a decent live player, then you should be able to remember, or at least note take after a session every sizable move a player made against you. A HUD just tracks hands you have played against others, it isnt magical, it only tracks your own hands, its like a handy auto note-making programme. This information is tracked by good players anyway.

+1 on what Marginal has said, i have a feeling that you dont really understand it. No shame in that though, just learn and go from there.
