but they can take money from oil lobbyists legally.

yeah I feel that lobbying is one of the worst things in this country. Unfortunately the only way I see us being able to play legally is because of lobbying. I read the idea here first (not sure who) but lets see if a major casino (Harrahs) buys or starts a major overseas online poker site, and then how quickly more votes like this start appearing in the govt. more often, and how they'll probably get pushed through.

when the right pockets get lined then we can gamble on the net i think if you are old enough to fight for your country you should be able to play poker but i also think you should earn your own money

After lots of discussion and then a break, they came back to vote and it was 32-32. They then did a voice vote and unfortunately the "No"s won.

they should have settled matters with a penalty shootout instead of whatever the hell a 'voice vote' is imo.

lol i just read the link - so it's basically whoever can shout the loudest? awesome!

I still dont understand this whole thing. Somone explain to me the difference in our legal system and countries in Europe that make online gambling illegal here. Is it just a cultural thing or what???

Basically it's the "We are the government, and We know what's best for you, and We know you can't take care of yourself so We have to babysit you." attitude of the "Elected Officials"

Well if you look at all the votes it seems the Democrats are more likely to be on our side than Republicans. Certainly there are Republicans on our side, most notably Ron Paul, but if you see the post a few back, you'll see that there were 2 Republicans (King and Paul) and the rest Democrats.

While I'm no fan of the Democrats, I'll take them over the Republicans on this issue any day.

I'm just glad to live in a country that rebeled from another because they thought the former country was placing too many laws on the people!

Heard there's a bill that will require us to get a special permit to fart in our own homes... ( it's a fire hazard! )
