What are your thoughts on staking.

Is it good/bad for poker? Why?

Does anyone here stake using sites such as DonkeyFarm and SurfersPoker?

never heard of those sites,

but i feel that staking is just fine (just dont do it publicly on here)...

but staking is fine as long as the loaner recieves the original $$ plus whatever % that was agreed upon...

nothing wrong with it unless you dont pay it back....

just make sure you are staking a reliable person

If you do it, be sure that the person that you are staking has fully participated in the descision to be staked.

And don't run off PMing people at random either. kthx. :)

The big problem these days are thousands of mediocre players that think they are good players and that they deserve money to play on someone else's dime. I've staked people before (both live and online) and it's turned out fine (so far in all cases). I have standing arrangements for some home tournies I play as well were our agreement isn't staking so much as it is shared risk and increased opportunity to cash. If done right, staking can be very profitable as well. Sometimes you find a very good player without the funds to play in the games were good money can be made. Investing in that person's abilities and profiting from it while sharing the winnings with them for doing the work is great. But you have to know what you're getting into and with who so that you don't get screwed.

This book provides the most comprehensive analysis of staking I have ever seen.

Staking seems to be somewhat like consulting a psychic. If a psychic was any good, he/she would win the lottery every day. If a player was any good, they should not need staking.

Yeah, but you can stake someone that doesn't need staking so they can freeroll in a tournament/cash game. I'd say this is more akin to buying a piece of someone's action than actual staking, but if you know a certain player is +EV in a certain game and you have the cash to spare, why not ?

How can I no for sure that I will get the money ?

And how can I no for sure that this person is giving me back all the money who is earned?

You do not know for sure. This is why choosing a reliable person is essential. Gain as much information as possible on the person you are staking, that way if anything goes wrong, they are an email/phone call/letter away.

I would never stake anyone unless they were a pro or something. I forget this person's name but he staked Unger who eventually won the wsop. it all depends on how much trust you have in the person.

I've never been staked but belong to a couple sites that, well it's just takes my breath, what some of these guys are making.

I have staked a player(online friend) before, "two times" when he was down on his luck, worked out good for me he made final table both times,I couldn't believe it. I was talking to him on yahoo chat box, while watching him move through the field of players.
He told me:He was scared to play HIS game,
REASONS: it wasn't his $$$, and he needed to win, I did see a bit of a change, so Im not going to agree that all players play like its no biggy if they not do good, besides the money their are other reasons players will play their BEST GAME, well to keep it short their are lots of players that play in the BIG games WSOP and such that are staked, Im sure everyone knows this though... I think its allright in my book, I don't have a problem with it.
When it comes to playing tables an being staked Im not sure how I would do that, I think I'd just work at like 9 to 15% of the stake per day, but that kinda like a loan more than staking so Im not shure, Also if you go to your bigger casino's at talk to them, you can work deals out, FREE ROOM, FOOD, DRINKS as long as you play the big tables a full shift. and Im sure their are other types of deals also if known.. interesting hope more respond to this thread..

I forget this person's name but he staked Unger who eventually won the WSOP.

It was Billy Baxter that staked him in the 1997 Main Event. IIRC he staked Unger for a bunch of other things as well, including his high-stakes heads up matches with Archie Karas.

Staking is actually commonplace among the pros themselves - there was speculation at this year's WSOP that well under half of the $50K HORSE field were playing on their own money. Scotty Nguyen had backers, reportedly. And the whole Tiffany Michelle being staked in the Main Event issue has been well documented.

I have been an extremely long term staker. I have staked hundreds of games meaning thousands of dollars at this point split between 4 major players but others as well.

I am most likely at a deficit from staking so far (although I do not keep count it is likely somewhere in the small hundreds range).

Anyway, my view on it is pretty simple. I dish out a certain portion of winnings to my stakees. I expect them to play at a level where their roi is 100%+. This way we both come out ahead in money above the donks and the rake. My stakes are extremely dedicated and are also very supportive so it helps to play the game with them chatting along side.

Also, I have used surfers poker to stake people and, for the only time in my life, did not receive my fair money returned to me. Never have gone back since. I have gotten all my stakes off of 2p2 with reliable references and postcounts, opr stats etc.

Sorry, I'm just the type of guy that thinks a personality goes hand in hand with hotness.
IMO, she lost her hotness when she opened her mouth the way she did at that table.
