I believe that poker is a sport, but I highly doubt that in the future, poker will be recognized as an Olympic sport.

Poker can be defined as a sport as long as people are willing to watch it be played. It is not an athletic competition, so the olympics should not allow it. I mean you don't even need to walk in order to play.

To the ones who think that is a sport : so playing chess or blackjack is a sport?
Tell me exactly your definition of "sport", and which ones you know that don't involve physical energy.
Because if you say "oh it's a mental sport", it means when you're studying for math or whatever, you're doing sport.

I think that the prospects for poker to become an Olympic sport are very minimal. Poker is too little spectacular, as well as chess, checkers, backgammon and other types. But the European and World Championships are quite possible.
But in order to make this possible, it is necessary to promote this sport as a tournament sport. But the owners of poker sites need only one thing - this is money. And in order to promote poker among people in the world, you need money and an initiative group. Everything else in poker as a form of tournament sport is present.

I think it is a mind sport

If there is e-sport than poker can be considered as sport. There is luck component obviously but I think practice, study and try to do your best counts :)

If you couldn't walk you'd have to take part in the Paralympics. ;)

As someone said above, poker is more gambling than sports and you need to have some luck when you play it. It has nothing to do with chess.

Depends on what do we mean by "Olympics", because today`s Olympics are a race of money! The real spirit of the Olympics is to prove and to show the human`s abilities, in a peaceful and fair play enviroment. So Olympics use human body and mind together. There were card games in ancient time, but they could not be part of Olympics, for the above reasons. They were just games. So poker can be a game, and the quality of the game is determined from all the players and all the related with poker.

increasingly less experienced poker specialists know the stories of creating this greatest game, if there are international tournaments, it’s a sport, such as cyber sport

Yes, I would call poker an intellectual sport like chess.

Any game or activity where two or more people or persons are competing is considered a sport so of course poker is a sport. Being an Olympic competition I don't think that it will happen, don't hold your breath.

I don’t think poker would ever be considered for an Olympic sport. There is too much variance involved and even the best players lose more often than winning.

It goes without saying that poker is a sport-you should train to improve your skills. And it would be great if it becomes an Olympic sport one day

Yes, for someone who lacks adrenaline, this is a good sport.

Poker is an activity & for some a profession, it is not a sport, you will see nonsense like synchronized swimming & golf in the Olympics before, oh wait, damn. Let me get back to you on this.

Your are totally right on this one. It's an activity not a sport. I love poker, but to be in the Olympics no way. I just don't see it.

Yes poker is a sport

I consider poker a sport, although online seems more like a game of chance, in question the Olympics I find difficult to become an Olympic sport

In my opinion there is a bit too much luck involved for poker to ever be considered a true sport.
