Pothole: if that were the case why would he be suing Tiltware?

Coolnout: it's been clear for weeks that YOUR money is gone, that's why they're been trying to raise capital.

Not necessarily true. If the FBI/DOJ are withholding funds, FTP may be trying to 'raise capital' because they don't want to wait on something when they don't know how long it will take. Devil's advocate, of course, but let's not make assumptions.

Don't see how this really helps but it is nice to see someone of his reputation make a statement. What he should do is play in the ME and then donate all of his winnings to those shorted by FTP. Would be nice to see other big names do this as well.

As for how he would have been treated had he showed up like all was normal, I think you're really wrong. He would have been hounded HARD. Now if he plays he'll be worshiped more than ever.

For being a hypocrite?

Sad to see he is pulling out of the WSOP (well... for now). That's like Tiger Woods pulling out of the Masters because a ranking Amatuer was disqualified. Doesn't make sense.
All he will do now is troll the high-stakes cash tables during the WSOP and clean up.

Surely a better analogy would be tiger pulling out because all the golf course in America were shut down apart from at major series' or something? This analogy clearly has flaws but I think is more accurate. Black Friday affects more than one 'rank amateur'.

re: lawsuit
Does anyone on here even have any idea as to what Ivey's business arrangement with FTP is? If not, than I'd assume it's all specualtion as to what the suite would be about. (wasn't Clonie Gowen suing for $40mil a couple yrs. back? .... were people assuming that some of the FTP pros own a % of the co.? I wonder what Ivey's investment is?)

That was a totally different issue. Clonie was suing them IIRC because she claimed she bought a part of FTP and was owed some of the profits but FTP refuted this.

What I was inferring was > who knows what he's suing for? (in other words... why make assumptions as to what he's suing over when we really don't know what the arrangements are with Ivey/FTP)

it's all Fake, do you think FTP would still be on his twitter page, if he was filing a law suit on FTP.
Did not FTP get him into a WSOP event??
I am with OzExorcist and WVH....

Ok so it's real, but how is he suing them going to get our money back???
As it was said before the DOJ has the bank accounts that has the players cash in them. It will be a mater of time to get them back so they can send the funds, untill that time we will all have to wait. A lawsuit will not make it go any faster, will take longer.
I would think FTP would drop him, and ban him from playing on FTP for doing this.

I'm on ESPN Chat right now with Andrew Feldman:

Rich (Scottsdale)
What's the general mood up there at the Rio? Do you sense some of the spectators are looking for Full Tilt Pro's to give them a hard time?

Andrew Feldman (5:19 PM)
In general, no. It seems pretty cordial at the moment, but there have been a few notable outbursts. I think as more people come in for the low buy-in weekend events, things might get a little more interesting. We're in a very big wait and see mode.

Forbes article on the lawsuit. http://www.forbes.com/feeds/Absolute Poker/2011/06/01/general-us-online-poker-ivey_8494948.html

"The suit claims more than $150 million in damages to Ivey's personal and professional reputation."

I'm unclear on how Ivey getting $150M gets FTP to pay me any faster???

I'm going to give Ivey the benefit of the doubt -- he is the only gambler who paid debts to Chip Reese's family after he died -- that this suit is precisely what he said it is from his FB statement. And that the fact the figure named in the suit ($150M) is pretty much what is owed to U.S. players means that he's not seeking it for himself.

Key point here is that he is seeking to force FT to disclose financial matters IMO.

Why is it that you are hating on him so much. At least he is doing something.
If it is because he is not going after the DOJ, he has no grounds to.
What is it that you want him to do?

It won't - even if he planned to distribute that $150m to the players the lawsuit would keep the funds tied up for months (if not years). If it's in addition to the money owed to players...

Anyhow, I gather from the story that a big part of the suit is getting Full Tilt to release him from his contract.

You have to think on another level, ( sorry Phill ). He's really telling the US Gov that they are going to LOSE, not just 25% of his WSOP winnings, but millions in related income and taxes because of his boycott of the event in response to the DOJ's ( Dept Of Jerks ) actions. FT and it's owners ( an independant business ) are under attack by the US Gov, what better way to show them the error of their ways than to withhold their revenue? If all the "pro's did the same , the house of cards would fold. The Gov 'allows' smoking and alcohol, both are adictive and both kill. But they produce Gov income through taxes so they don't give a crap. I really feel sad for you US citizens. Your Gov feels it nessesary to control you to the extent that your not even allowed to spend your own money unless they approve of it.

Not really. His winnings will be someone else's winnings and the Fed will get their cut. It will just be down a buck or two due to Ivey's buy-in not being there.

Ivey's status: +1000

""a boycott of the wsop speaks volumes"".

No I think what speaks volumes is this guy is smart for not playing in the WSOP, I cant say for sure but I but there are some pissed off American players out there out of a lot of money, now being from Oakland,CA, one the murder capitals in the US, I can say I bet he would be in fear for his life, I would not put it pass someone who has tens of thousands of dollars locked up on full tilt, to grab a gun and blow his head off during a live poker event, all they have to do is wait till he leaves or goes to his room, bathroom break, etc etc. Happens all the time out here in Oakland,CA. I know if I was a full tilt pro and this crap was happening, you would not see me anywhere near a big US live game, it would be like putting a bulls eye on my back or forehead.

I read the complaint. He is demanding to be released from his sponsorship/non-compete clause with full tilt. He is demanding the 150 million as compensation for defamation of his character essentially. None of any money that he might win is earmarked for the players. This is his personal dispute with Tilt.

Also I think its funny that the complaint makes it appear that he was completely unaware that what Full Tilt was doing was considered illegal by the DOJ.

poker news is releasing Tiltware's response via Twitter. http://twitter.com/#!/PokerNews

I think Phil is clearly in the right here and his actions might indirectly help pressure FT to pay US players but he's not doing this for your benefit and the suit will actually make it harder for them to pay IMO.

Full article here: http://www.pokernews.com/news/2011/...ment-addressing-phil-ivey-s-lawsuit-10506.htm

Relevant part:

here is Tiltware’s statement in its entirety:
“Contrary to his sanctimonious public statements, Phil Ivey’s meritless lawsuit is about helping just one player – himself. In an effort to further enrich himself at the expense of others, Mr. Ivey appears to have timed his lawsuit to thwart pending deals with several parties that would put money back in players’ pockets. In fact, Mr. Ivey has been invited -- and has declined -- to take actions that could assist the company in these efforts, including paying back a large sum of money he owes the site. Tiltware doubts Mr. Ivey’s frivolous and self-serving lawsuit will ever get to court. But if it does, the company looks forward to presenting facts demonstrating that Mr. Ivey is putting his own narrow financial interests ahead of the players he professes to help.”

OK... WV your the man , but I've already posted it after its been posted.
Seems to me he's puttin' his reputation on the line. I've got a series of twits from pokernews-
Statement from Tiltware in regards to Phil Ivey lawsuit coming soon on PokerNews.com.

cont"Mr. Ivey appears to have timed his lawsuit to thwart pending deals with several parties that would put money back in players’ pockets."

"Mr. Ivey has been invited -- and has declined -- to take actions that could assist the company in these efforts..."

"...including paying back a large sum of money he owes the site."

"...Tiltware doubts Mr. Ivey’s frivolous and self-serving lawsuit will ever get to court..."

cont: "Mr. Ivey is putting his own narrow financial interests ahead of the players he professes to help.”

So it goes my friends...looks as though there could be a big legal battle ahead. I have my own interest in this legal situation... FTP owes me quite a bit of money.

Gl everybody.
