Lamb needs to at least final table the ME to catch up to him.
Anyone who plays the ME gets 25 POY pts.
He started out pretty decently (I'd rather see Phil take it down though)

Agreed, Hellmuth is very much a Hold'em MTT specialist, although maybe his mixed game is improving since he made it so deep in this event. But plenty of players are better at NLHE in general.
Kinda weird that Helmuth has 32 cashes in 'non' holdem events along with 17 final tables

Hellmuth still going in the Main Event looks like he'll make day 4. Lamb with a very nice stack too.

As I said, he's improved, but every one of his 11 bracelets are in Hold'em events. And he plays an ungodly number of events. His poker skills are good enough, combined with the sheer volume of events he enters, he's going to be expected to run good sometimes. That doesn't make him a good mixed-game player.

You think it's just my opinion? Almost every single top player who plays regularly with Hellmuth and knows his game has repeatedly stated he's a big field tournament Hold'em specialist. That's where he excels. If it's a misconception, then it's a pretty universal one. Phil will also tell you he's the greatest cash player as well, but I would hope you know better.

The $50K HORSE HU match was mesmerizing, incredible TV. Pretty amazing when you can't even see the hole cards. Phil basically shipped it 3 times with flush draws FTW and bricked them all. On one, the guy bet/called flop with AKo on T44 board, so Phil was basically a 50-50 there.

It's time to stop calling Phil a NLHE specialist. The $50K HORSE event is really now the most prestigious event in the wsop, as all of the best players covet that bracelet. When you get to HU vs. the best players in the world in a mixed game event, you must be pretty good at da pokahs.

I really think that Hellmuth is still basically a cash game fish vs. the best in the world, but it is pretty lol that so many people think NL200 players could own him. He has no business sitting at a cash game with Ivey/Durrrr/Antonius etc.

He knows how to shift gears and take advantage of his image. If you watched the HU match vs. Rast you really saw that. It was amazing how aggro he got -- can't wait to see the hands. He makes good live reads, which is an underrated part of poker by many online specialists. He also still makes some pretty LOL mistakes once in a while that get too much attention, because even the best players make mistakes quite often IMO.

Gz hellmuth busted before the money. Lamb looks like he's poised for a deep run.

ha, i loved that Phil "how can you call with that Hellmuth" was the one who basically gambled on a flush draw knowing he was behind in probably the most important hand of the tourney

it was like he was admitting that Rast would continue to outplay him, so he decided to spin the poker roulette wheel to try to get lucky ... i can put up with a Brat, but not a hypocrite ... he is entertaining though and he does have all those bracelets and you can see why ...

he does do a great job of refusing to put that last chip in the pot unless he knows he has the best hand, which again is why i was surprised he decided to gamble

if you watch his heads up grudge match against chan you'll see that he likes to gamble a bit.. i think he pushed (called all in i dont remember exactly push would make more sense since he would get a bit of fold equity) with flush draw on flop twice in a row .

I liked the first one. The other two? Not so much.

The first one really didn't take but a cuppla million from him, with a chance to end the match. Still had a big chip lead. Good push. :top:

The second one was a call, and should have been an easy fold. Methinks he was steaming. If he had taken a second and counted the chips, he could have gotten away from it. Find a better spot to finish him up.

The third one, another call, was stupid if you plan on climbing back. Never draw for your tournament, right?... Never the less, 3rd. flush draw in a row? It's gotta hit. :dontknow:

Too bad too. I was really pulling for him. He let the kid get under his skin and exploded AGAIN. At some point he's gotta learn that lesson. Overall though, the Phil is kicking arse this year.

I wanted it Hellmuth to win this time. I saw a resume when people was annoying to Hellmuth all the time. And the security does nothing. The second place was good but Hellmuth deserved the bracelet in my opinion.
