I will say one of the most overrated is Tom Dwan....I am guessing his name will disappear from the limelight soon enough
Think it already has along with Howard Lederer , Chris Freguson , and some others after their part in the FullTilt scandals........scorp

The most uder the radar player is master david haynie, plays in all the big cash games but no one knows him as he plays under a group of false names. Haynie is not his real name.

I know some of you will want to kill me but for me the most overrated player is Phill Hellmuth. Simply because so many people talk about him like about the best player of all time.. its not truth in my opinion...

Second is ElkY :)

And underrated? Hard to say, maybe Eugene Katchalov?

Thought this thread was worth a bump.

One of my favorite "under-the-radar" players is Huck Seed. Pros respect the hell out of him, but he's not really a household name

Agree with this. Huck is the man and underrated in comparison to most well known TV players. He doesn't play in the limelight too often but when he does it is worth watching.

It is true he is generally known and rated but not a household name to the same extent of Ivey, Negreanu, etc. They may play more but Huck definitely has the ability to beat any of them heads-up.

His heads-up play has certainly helped me at final tables.

I think this is a really hard thing to comment on. You'd have to watch a LOT of hands that players play to be able to judge that in my opinion...

Allen Cunningham was underrated compared to his peers during his time.

Pretty crazy comment on isildur1, when your playing at the highest stakes big swings are inevitable no matter how good you are. Ask Phil Ivey.

The game changes so much it's hard to rate who's best and worst.

There's a few females I think might just be in line for most underrated. They don't seem to play as many games as the top guys, but they're still there in some big tourneys.

Overrated is quite subjective to your last (few) tourney(s), as the song goes, "You're only as good as your last record".

I like Hellmuth, i find it hillarious when he gets crushed in the cash games :) his antics are so funny, tony g seems to be the one guy who crushes him the most, tony g though i feel makes most of his money in other business ventures since he owns betting sportsbooks, stores, resort, and pokernews so he basically freerolls in poker since a while now, phil hellmuth to me is a true poker player

While I have a sincere respect for Phil's poker skills, I question his antics and attitude. Maybe it is an act for his brand, maybe it's his way of controlling a "tilt at the tables" for a "tilt away from the cards", whatever.

However, when Phil and Tony G are at the same table, it's like the poker now plays 2nd fiddle for Tony with his main goal to see how many times he can get Phil to blow a gasket.

Overrated is Gus Hansen who has not had a winning year in the last 5 years but still gets worshiped. Sure he won a high roller tournament but anyone can do that if they got the stake and run good.

Also don't think anyone over rates Mike Matusow but he really is a bad player when it comes to being considered for "pro status"

If the mouth didn't have the lending power he does he'd probably be homeless. Maybe thats a tad to harsh but i really Don't rate him at all tbh.

Probably, I remember on High Stakes Poker Phil Helmuth had to stake him the 100k just to play the game. Pretty sad considering the guy has $8 million in tournament winnings(Probably all pre 2006 haha)

Kid poker would be the best.

Hellmuth would be up there.

Lederer had always been overrated and watching him play just makes me sick cause only drunks would pay him off.

By my opinion most underrated are Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Eric Seidel and recently Tom Dwan.
Overrated Tony G and ElkY.
Howard Lederer as poker player is forgoten.
And do you remember Andrew (Andy) Beal? Banker who demolished pros.

I think Isildur1 is overrated, he's exciting, that's undeniable, but overrated. He's not as great as some people describe him to be. He's probably down lifetime in online cash games. How can a great player be down lifetime in online cash games?

Gus Hansen has to be one of the most overrated players out there. He lost over over 15 million dollars on Full Tilt. I don't know if he can be called a Poker Pro because he doesn't make money from playing Poker anymore. He's just blasting it away on FTP.

I too love how Tony G plays against Phil or any other poker pro for that matter. He really brings the spirit to tables and is hilarious to watch. Also, he's one of the very few Lithuanian poker players out there, although he's not much of a poker pro and plays just for fun.

As much how much I like Lex Veldhuis(Raszi) for his sick bluffs at wsop 2009 who inspired people like me to play loose, I think he's overrated. But I don't care. Him and Elky are two of my favorite players who come from Starcraft background.

I don't think Tony G is even playing professionally anymore, he has a betting site so I don' think we will see him at the poker tables anymore. And I would agree that Yevgeniy Timoshenko is clearly underrated player.
