So at the time I write this Chris Moneymaker is doing very well in the wsop Main Event

I just want to see everyones thoughts

What if Chris won the main event?

What would it do for poker? Could we see another poker boom?

Just want to see what everyones thoughts are cause when I seen him with 1.3 mil on day 3
that is the first thing that came to mind

I think we would see another poker boom

Still a long way to go but it would be nice to see him win. You just can't help but root for the guy.

Come on Chris. Talked to him briefly in 2007 in an elevator at APPT Grand Finale in Sydney - very cool. He is so very down to earth and humble. Good run to you Mr. Moneymaker - you are why so many of us play.!!!

Neutral... if he wins, he wins, if not then not...

Don't think much about the guy, especially after i saw him as a "commentator" recently on acr events... it was online poker, but he couldn't really stand, don't judge, pick someone, taking sides, and go far away from poker, not even a single time... (especially, most of the cases he had no clue about the persons, as he didnt know at all most of them...)

Thought i will watch the live stream for few hours several times, let's see how they play, but always turned off within 10-15 minutes, just couldn't listen him longer...

If it draws more people into poker, especially mixed games, I'm all for it!

That Chris Moneymaker is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better now than when he won the main event. That is the truth, but tell someone that and look at the "you're a liar or crazy" face they make.
A few months ago (on September 19th) I was saying Moneymaker was way better now than he used to be ...quote from this thread https://www.cardschat.com/forum/com...rue-but-when-you-491616/?highlight=Moneymaker I'm glad to see him doing well, would be great to see him at the Main Event final table this year!

This response sums it up quite perfectly. Poker isn't where it is without his help. The timing was perfect really - the hole card cameras were huge too because now you can see what cards were being played and how. Plus, given its ease of access by anybody to play. Where else can you go and sit down beside a famous player like Daniel Negreanu and play?

As of my post, there's 465 people left in the Main Event, and he is 18th in chips at 1.88 million.

I think just making the Final Table would be epic for him.

Yes, great to see Chris Moneymaker going deep.

However, even if he were to win the main event again the boost to poker would be minimal as online poker has long since established itself. There will be no boom like the initial win generated -people will just take it in stride no matter who were to win it. You could argue that a well known poker player such as Negreanu winning the event would create a buzz (yes, I know he is out) but even then it would have nothing like the original Moneymaker effect.

That was a one off event during a particular time with a particular individual never to be repeated...sadly.

I don't think Moneymaker winning again (if able to) would have the same impact. Part of the poker boom was because Moneymaker looked like a fairly average player (even though he was playing competitively much prior to winning the main event) to most and that was relatable; "if he could do it, then why couldn't I do it?"

However, Moneymaker is no longer an "average guy" in the public eye; now he is a well recognized name and champion of poker, so him winning would just be another pro winning. Besides, the original poker boom was also at a critical point in time; things like card cameras popularizing poker on tv certainly played a major role.

To replicate this Moneymaker effect (if possible), then it would likely have to be some lesser known player who wins, yet appears relatable and ideally some technology (like card cams) advanced in such a way which it popularizes the game again.

These factors together don't seem likely, so this effect may never be replicated in the same way. Looking at this from a different perspective, the USA "fixing" the damage from Black Friday laws would certainly unleash a new wave of poker players similar to what we saw in the 2003 Moneymaker days.
