I remember seing teens in films playing poker in the street at may be 14! Do you think this too young?

Yes 14 is too young. Age to start playing is 21 as a person mind has matured. And this is how casino's operate.

No age is too young to start playing. The age to start gambling is the concern. Of course, the age is the legal age for gambling that is too young to gamble. Teach a young kid poker and they will become great mathematically and analytically in my opinion. Not only that if they played and was taught to play correct. They will crush!

Hello.
I believe that poker is a game for adults. In my opinion, the players must be at least 16 years old.

The posters in this thread seem to be answering two different questions. How young is too young to play poker and how young is too young to gamble are two very different questions. When I was a child, I had a casino game for my video game system. My father seeing me play it inspired him to start giving me pointers.

I also grew up with a pool table in the house. I started playing when I was so small that I had to drag a chair around to stand on in order to shoot. My father never taught me to play pool, but he never discouraged me from playing.

Having learned from a young age and being skilled at these games didn't lead me to become a degenerate gambler. In fact, I was twenty-five years old before I ever bet on a game of pool and then only because the guy I was playing was trying to run a hustle and insisted that we play for drinks.

I started playing poker at the age of 16 with my schoolmates. I was turning my pocket money weekly :) after which I took a break of about 5 years and at the age of 25 I started playing online

Hi.
I started playing poker about 4-5 years ago. When I started I was about 32-33 years old. I am in no hurry, and I plan to play poker for at least another 30-40 years. :D
Good luck.

If it is not involving money, as soon as you are able to do math you are ready to start learning poker .... (my opinion)

I think that the ideal age to start playing poker is 18, due to the necessary maturity and the ability to understand situations that at a younger age is more difficult

I think from a purely strategic point of view, that one can start playing poker at any age. It's just like any other cards game and is a great way to learn math, logic, and other skills.

The issue is around the gambling element and how that can warp the brain a little bit or put the youth on a high. For this reason I think that the gambling side shouldn't really be included until late teens perhaps. That being said if the teacher is teaching investment strategy and proper bankroll / money management then perhaps 13 is fine, when kids would start working.

As for the gambling... I mean how old does a kid have to be to go to carnivals and chucky-cheese. Because those are basically places that get kids prepped for gambling for real money later, so from a societal perspective it would seem like they think any age is fine...

I don't think there is any age borders in poker, if you're good you can be good at any age.
