Poker, I have been playing now for over 40 years, I played a lot of Stud and 5 card draw in my younger days and only got into Texas Holdem around 20 years ago. I did play a lot of 3 card Brag and other games like Cribbage, Welsh Don,
blackjack, Shoot and many more games since I was old enough to hold a deck of cards.
Any game I could make money at, I have tried, and was always up for a game in any pub I walked into. Cards, Dominoes, Darts, Snooker, Pool, as long as there was a prize at the end, I was up for it.
You just had to be wise to the fact a lot of hustlers tried to con you, and once they wanted to start raising the ante, you got out as soon as you could, they always worked in pairs and playing for low stakes would throw a couple of games and then want to raise the stakes to get their money back.
Never worked on my friends or myself, as we knew the con they were trying to pull.
Once my Son and a friend of his were on leave from the British Army, we went out for a friendly game of pool and a few drinks, we had been playing for about an hour when 2 guys walked in and asked if we were interested in playing 4 handed for £1.00 each, I declined because I knew their reputation.
My Son and his friend accepted and I whispered to my Son " Watch out Son these two are on the make" and he said "it's O.K. Dad we know what we are doing".
Sure enough after losing the first 2 games, they asked to up the stakes to £10.00, my Son and his friend quickly accepted the bet, and I said to my Son " I told you these two were up to something" he replied " I know Dad, but what these two don't know is my mate is the Regimental Snooker Champion, and has not started playing yet".
They 7 balled the other two guys and took their money off them. Nice when 2 con-men get beaten at their own game.
When the fun Stops, STOP!
