I've always been go big or go home.

Thats the attractiveness of tourneys, as well as the pain that comes b/c they are so top heavy.

More smaller buy ins for sure, simple math suggests that I would have more chances of winning anything, with that one buy in id sure be under pressure so I don't think I'd do much good

It depends which buy-ins or stakes you are usually playing. As a rule you should play in games that you beat or have a skill advantage over the other players. If you just want to have a bit of fun freerolls are the best option, because you are not risking anything but your time. Freerolls are better than playing for playmoney, because when the field gets smaller you actually play poker and develop some skill while in playmoney games people usually go all in every hand and make questionable calls. ..There are very few players that just risk some spare money and get the sunday million win.

I've actually done both.
I had 20$ and bought into a 10$ tourney, I came in third for a nice 1040$ cash
But I think overall smaller buy-ins and smaller 100$ wins over the long haul are the way to approach building and maintaining a bankroll. That 1040$ lasted me over a year and there is still some of it left at pokerstars to this day. I never cashed out and am patiently waiting for my state to opt back into online poker at Pokerstars.

I would and do play the biggest MTT's I can satellite into often busting my bankroll. I always try to satellite into tournaments rather than pay the full amount without a fight. Have yet to score $10,000 dollars or more have attempted it like 44 times.

Why? Because going big it takes similar amount of luck, patience, discipline, skill, time, and effort to win a large MTT guaranteed as it does a small guaranteed MTT. Just because the MTT is a series of small buy-in that maybe cheap does not mean it is easier to win.

Now high-roller or Large Field structure is different story.I prefer large field because I need an amount to alter my life or maybe change it if I had scored big in the Million Dollar Sunday or soon the $5 million Venom. Don't grind is the point you just waste huge amount of time and effort making the casino rich.

Thanks . I've been thinking about it, too . After all, playing in the limits below and dividing the bankroll into several tournaments, I often get exhausted and if I win, it is not what I wanted . I guess you're right, I'd rather really play one big one a day than play 10 small ones and wear myself out...If I win one major, it will compensate me for everything in excess and I will not be so tired playing 10 tournaments . You've given me a new benchmark for the choice approach . I was looking for these words for myself to be more confident in my assumptions

Honestly i think this is what's it all about .Yeah you need to have good bankroll discipline either way but who doesn't want to hear another Moneymaker story where the guy qualified by a 50$ buy in online and then went on to win the main event .I try to go big or go home as well and to be honest nothing beats when you see you win a tourney that's 3x more times than your average buy in .Take care guys and dream BIG.

Hello community ,

Let's say you can play every week but only once per week and you have the X amount of money!

Would you prefer fire a single buy in MTT/SNG/Cash Table or divide the X amount in smaller buy ins and why?Let's say you can choose only one from the above options.
Hey! I would rather play several tournaments with lower buy-ins than one with a higher buy-in. This gives you a better chance of winning a tournament or entering an ITM.

For me it would be playing smaller buy in events. With variance and attempting to navigate through larger fields in MTT it would be much more fun to split it up.
