Hi dear players, poker is somehow linked to gambling, so is very fun and inspirational to read gambling quotes coming from the pros who made history in poker or any proverb about it. If you like some gambling quotes write it here, I'd like to know.

“Luck never gives; it only lends.”– Swedish Proverb

but when you can win they will be yours

“I’ve learned the lesson that the worst thing that can happen to a gambler is to let his recent losses or wins knock him off keel emotionally.”
Andrew Beyer highlighted one of the biggest failings of gamblers in this quote: letting emotions cloud judgment. Beyer was an expert on horse racing betting, writing four books on the subject. He also designed the Beyer Speed Figure, a system for rating Thoroughbred racehorses.

I also have a favorite quote that fully reflects my vision of this game.
“The commonest mistake in history is underestimating your opponent; happens at the poker table all the time.” ~ General David Shoup.

“Hoping to recoup is what ruins the gambler.”

This is an Irish proverb which highlights one of the biggest mistakes a gambler can make: chasing losses. In the same way that you have to know when to quit when you are ahead, there’s also a time to cut your losses and quit.

True Story related to the above quote... I can't say that I am really proud of it, but it is an anecdote that I thought would be worth sharing here.

It was early in the morning, I was in downtown Vegas, I had just grabbed my first cup of coffee, so I decided to have a little fun to start the day. The casino floor is relatively empty so I head over to a low stakes craps table and decide to try to pick-up $50 - $100 by making a series of progressive bets. I am the only player at the table. The game goes on as expected for a half hour with some minor ups and downs, but I do not reach my goal. Then a bit of a losing streak ensues, but nothing major and I just continue to progress my bets without thinking too much about it. The stickman then says to me;

"Did I tell you that I saved a gal from being raped on the way into work this morning?"

I exclaim "No way! What happened!"

He says "I stopped chasing her."

Ouch! I get it, I think to myself... this is a buzzkill.

A short time later, and without any further conversation, I was able to hit something and achieve my goal and quietly leave the table. I did not leave a tip. :p

Best of Luck at The Tables All,

all gambling with real money is a game of chance, as most depend on luck rather than skill.

“Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”
For many gamblers, this quote neatly sums why they gamble. It’s not just about the money itself, it’s the joy of winning it. The quote was from the movie The Color of Money, said by the character Fast Eddie Felson – played by Paul Newman.

Some won't understand this analogy ... LOL

Poker is a lot like sex in another way: first you have the 'flop'; then the 'turn'; and finally the 'river'.

I also have a TON of these quotes on my instagram page https://www.instagram.com/gripsed/

I hired a graphic designer to take all the beet poker quotes of all time and mix them with an image of the player who said it. Pretty fun stuff.

If you scroll down my feed you'll probably see about 100 of them.
Hope you enjoy!

This one is another good one:

“Poker may be a branch of psychological warfare, an art form or indeed a way of life, but it is also merely a game in which money is simply the means of keeping score.” Anthony Holden
