I tried to you use a card protector, but felt like it was a bit of a tell, on my behalf. If you keep at least one hand on your cards at all times until you fold, you dont have to worry about them flipping over.

Do you use a card protector

I have an over-large souvenir coin I use sometimes. I just place it over my two dealt cards. And, the Dealer just leaves them alone as per protocol at Grey Eagle. But not all places are the same. Best to know ahead of time what the table protocols are. Other times I can not be bothered and just cover the cards with a hand as the Dealer sweeps for tossers. Best Wishes.

I use one of two things either a chip I got from the poker room for a previous Royal or an old silver dollar I have.

Coolest I have seen is a Megaladon tooth

I haven't played live before. However, I like the idea of using a small, nerdy figurine as a card protector.

I don't use one, but I have seen other players who do. Mostly they use a chip of their stack.

I just hold my cards in my left hand at all times. I have seen dealers swipe people's cards into the muck by mistake too many times

i use a chip from my stack, but have seen many. The best ones are momentos unrelated to poker but significant to the player using them. If figurines are your thing go for it. If you have some sort of coin or small trinket that means something to you, it is also good. They can be great conversation pieces to help loosen up some players. If you don't care to talk at the tables though, I probably wouldn't use one at all.

When you say you hold them do you just mean youplace your hand over top? What if you're grabbing a drink etc.

This is a (bad) picture of my card protector:

Card protector

It is an old TR King poker chip. TR King was a manufacturer of chips in the US through most of the Twentieth Century. They closed about ten years ago :( It was manufactured in the Large Crown mold and used in an illegal club in the Southwest in the forties (?) I'm guessing. I couldn't find my poker chip book that names the club and the dates, but I remember that only a few are known to exist (<100) and since I own about 35 of them, I'm assuming this is unique as a card protector.

At our weekly home game nobody uses a card protector.
In casinos, I keep forgetting to use them.
I have a collection of chips from my visits to cardrooms, but keep forgetting to take a unique one with me.

i use it only sometimes when the blinds are more than $5. Obviously, I try not to show that I have good hands by the way I put the protector.. be careful with that!

Do you use a card protector? if so I'd love to know what people use!
Being a military veteran, I believe in hiring vets first. When I need a card protector my neighbor is my first choice. She was special forces and provides her own AK and hand grenades. A bit pricey but I appreciate her service and I can honestly say no one touches those cards without asking first. Just say'n. :D :p

God bless.

I use a cigar cutter. Thinking about changing, I have been using it a long long time. Something not too clumsy and a little lumpy/unique. Really only need it when sitting in the 1 or 9/10 seat. Just last month a guy in the 1 seat had his cards swiped from the BB. The action comes to him and he has no cards.

A chip is okay... but it's easier to get that swept in with the cards. A unique card protector stops the dealer cold. I have never had a hand swept in my 30 years of playing in casinos, but I'm pretty obsessive about using the protector

Also- If you do use a protector. Put it on your cards the same way every hand. Make sure you cap your hand even when you plan to fold. Someone will realize you don't use it when you plan to fold. This may not affect you as much as the other players in the hand.
