There is no denying that Tom is a cash game monster. However, he does not have the same success in tournaments. I do still think that he'll probably win one in the next 5 years.

Tom dwan finished second place at the 2010 wsop in the $1,500 No Limit Hold 'em event and also reaching multiple wsop final table.Imo he is still capable of winning a bracelet.

He falls into the same issues as Ivey does, the tournaments are not worth that much to him unless he has side action. The only reason Ivey won his last bracelet is because he had 2 million in side action. The prizes just are not worth it when they can make triple in one session of cash games.

Unless he is motivated by history, which he may be when he gets older, or unless there is SIGNIFICANT side action on him winning, I do not ever think he will be motivated enough to get back to WSOP tourneys in a serious manner.

But, I do believe he may be the best poker player to ever live.

I get that they can make more in the nose bleed games, but the WSOP isn't about money. Or at least it shouldn't be. It should be about the prestige of winning a WSOP event and getting a bracelet. I guess that doesn't matter to some people.

You think he's the best player to ever live!? That's a bold statement and a very interesting opinion.

It's that second bit that's important IMO. There are definitely people like Phil Hellmuth who are all about the prestige and the exposure. But at the end of the day poker is supposed to be about winning money. So I can see how guys like Ivey, Dwan, Farha and the like focus much more on cash games, where they can make more money, than on winning tournaments and bracelets.

Like I said, I know they can make more in cash games during the time it takes to play at the WSOP. I just wish that the prestige of winning meant more to more players. I remember watching the Main Even as a kid in the early-mid 90s, and they were so much more fun to watch than the ones now. Winning a bracelet was what it was about. Being a champion. The money was a bonus.

yea during the WSOP last year there was a lot of speculation that he was being forced to gamble for Asian Mafia types in order to repay some loses. They forced him to go a little to deep into his pockets at the table and they finally beat him and he couldnt cover.
The crappy thing is they made him gamble at Bacarat and stuff and he lost a bunch and they added it to what he owed them for poker. It was said they may kill him.

This is all speculation and there is not much anywhere to confirm or deny it. His last tweet allegedly was May 2015. Not sure if any of it was true but if it was what a strange story.

Update - my contacts in L.A. say he is now in Macau playing cash games, and does not know if above was true, but thinks it was just rumors.

That´s quite a story. I remember railing him during the HS games in full tilt a few years ago and also watching him in tv programs such as poker after dark. Hope those rumours are not true, he is/was a great player.

It would be nice if he was to win a bracelet at some time because he is so entertaining to watch.

However, I do not think that he will because his playing style is too high variance to succeed in a tournament of the length of WSOP ones.

Yeah. That's kinds the feeling I have too. I would not be surprised if never wins one, but because he is such a good player, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and voted that I think he'll win one sometime in the next 5 years.

You are right. Cash games are for him. Every year that goes by, the fields are bigger and tougher at the wsop. Unless he plays every one like Helmuth, his chances of a bracelet dwindle every year.

I know where most of those rumors started and they started as a joke but for whatever reason people believed it.

It is really likely he's not in great financial shape though. He was playing super nose bleeds so a bad string of cards could really cause some pain. I'm sure he's to some extent trying to hide from the taxman as well. If you win 400k one session then lose 500k the next you still owe the US government a big chunk of the 400k which is ludicrious but technically the law.

I'm rooting for the guy though.

who knows if he will even play in the wsop again

You're right. It's possible that he doesn't. I guess it comes down to weather or not winning a bracelet is important to him or not.

I'm also kinda surprised by the poll results so far. But I think most of the people who voted no, did it thinking he probably just won't play at the WSOP anymore.

I really hope so, he's a master of taking down opponents and pots with cards that should not even be on the board at that time. I think he's awesome and hopeffly he does.
