I use to drag race, now I'm too old (64) so poker gives the thrill of winning but also the downer of losing. I just love the game.

This question seemed like a "simple" question until I really thought about it. Then it went from simple to probably the most interesting question I ever heard about poker ( for me). The reason I say that is because I like live poker which is illegal in my area, so I travel often to play and also when I do play in certain areas which is illegal to play Im at great risk of many different scenarios playing out. So my answer would be I do play for money because I can't play for "the fun of it" not because I just love having money but also people when playing for nothing; It would be hard to get a true game experience. So when cash is involve atleast I know there would be some real play going on. Also I play for the "rush" and "thrill" ....I know there are players that can relate to that feeling of hitting a set on the flop, getting pocket aces, seeing a player go all in and you have the nuts just to name a few. So its not just the money but also the competition that the game produces. Unlike many sports or games poker isn't dominated by a certain age group, race or gender. It's for everyone, even much might say it's dominated more by men then women still It's for all and unlike other sports where players retire and leave the sport a lot retire and join poker!!! lol . So yea I play for money and other to answer the question I JUST LOVE POKER!

Obviously for the money. The thrill of beating people is all down to money. If your in a big pot and trapping someone and they go all in and you got nuts etc etc thats only a thrill because of the money your going to win. It wouldnt be a thrill if nothing was gained at end of it. The thrill and buzz and playing against good players is all money based. The thrill and buzz wouldnt be there if was all for play money.

I play to relax and as a distraction from other things. I don't play for much money and enjoy the simple cashes that come alone with playing the game.

I want to say for the money but since I don't win any guess I have to say for the entertainment, to relax and to learn something new i guess to adopt another skill.

Pretty sure you're missing something.
Maybe consider reading a poker psychology book (Alan Schoonmaker or others) & you might be surprised.

I agree with the Undertaker. I play for money, but then my wife shows me my account and says "get real dog, you play cause you like to play" Although I did pay for dinner once on my win. Was an Asian noodle soup with a bell pepper chopped in it.

I knocked a raven off a picket fence with a BB gun once, not only did I not kill it but it flew over me and shat on my head, I leave the birds alone now. Never tried with a stone.

I pretty much play for the adrenaline, when i bluff all in on the river, with total air feels like fire runs through my veins. But i do have to keep an eye on my money because if they are gone, the thrill is gone as well.

I play to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of their women. :viking:Is that so wrong?

I can't say I'm playing for the money because I enjoy all kinds of games whether there's money involved or not. (Translation: I'm not making much) I enjoy the mental challenge of having something to study, learn and hopefully get better at. I like the excitement of a big hand and the fact that unlike most other games, just because you're way behind, it doesn't mean you can't come back and win the whole thing.
