I was unable to add my comment to your original post, for some unknown reason, so here it is. Thank you for your two examples of one out, What you gave was instances of one WINNING out. A poker sage once said that "Outs" are the unknown cards that will complete or improve your hand. In the first instance our hero can improve his boat with any pair of 8s, 9s, 10s, Js, Qs or Ks, a total of 36 outs. In the second hero's hand can be improved with any 2 from 10h, Jh, Qh and Kh, - 6 outs Sorry if this doesn't make sense to people who didn't see the original
