I talked to a dealer and he wasn't very happy with his job, he said alot of poker players were just plain rude/grumpy most the time, his pay was close to minimum wage, and he wasn't allowed to play poker at the casino he worked at

Yeah, those are all common complaints, and universal realities that you have to deal with if you want to be a casino dealer.

The other main one is the hours - it's hardly a 9-5 job, and you've gotta kiss most of your nights and weekends goodbye.

Not being able to play at the casino you work in is standard too, and it's one of the many reasons I work for a private events company rather than the casino: we only have the one casino here, I'd never be able to play live if I worked there :p

I don't know where you're from but alot of casinos in the UK have their own open days off the record etc; where you can show any talents you may have and possibly get a job. Being a dealer is a really difficult job, especially in poker where quick thinking and decent match skills are important.
